'Number Please'

Last year when GSN ran again the one 'Number Please' I noticed how the game had some similarities to 'Wheel of Fortune.'

Does anyone know if there was any talk at Mark Goodson Productions in the Eighties about reviving it in light of the big success of 'Wheel of Fortune' (you put it mildly)?

As for the inevitable comparisons that would have arose they could have claimed 'We did it first in the Sixties.'

Mark's boast would have to take a back seat to Louis Cowan, because Cowan's hangman-style panel show Down You Go had a very respectable prime-time run in the 1950s. Just a guess, but if there had ever been a plan to revive some version of Number Please, it probably would have morphed into a whole different style of play. Number was an idea that worked, but it had no excitement. I would be interested, too, to hear if Mark ever gave the format another thought.

Goodson considered a hangman-like format in which three players stood before a large wheel marked with various dollar amounts, but the idea was dropped.

How many days until April 1, BTW?
