Dick Clark auction

Dick Clark is auctioning off a number of items from his personal collection of memorabilia.  Among the items on the block, the microphone he used his first day on "American Bandstand."  A representative of the auction house says the mic is expected to sell for between $10,000 and $100,000.

Other items include a bass guitar that Paul McCartney played as a Beatle, a beaded glove of Michael Jackson's, and the harmonica Bob Dylan played in "The Last Waltz."

Everything will go to the highest bidder.

The article didn't mention whether there's any game show memorabilia included.

I had the good fortune of seeing his office a few years ago (it's in an old house in Burbank near the NBC studios).  Every wall in the building was covered ceiling to floor with framed photos, the vast majority of them from Bandstand and other music shows.  The only game show stuff I specifically remember was in his personal office.  There, amidst tons of memorabilia that over the years has just become a blur to me, were many original panels of Pyramid Winner's Circle categories.  A couple of the gag ones were there, but I forget which.

BTW, one of the longer articles in a Google search mentions that he plans to be at New Year's Rockin' Eve again, so that's good news.

I know Dick Clark had opened up a handful of American Bandstand restaurants about a dozen or so years ago (are those still in business???).  

I wonder if some of the items in the auction are from the restaurants?

I was very surprised that there hasn't been much (if at all) personal or Bandstand memorabilia from his career that was donated/loaned to the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame when I had worked there years ago.  It would be great to see a lot of the real historical stuff (like the AB mic) make it to a good home in Cleveland.

I know the King of Prussia, PA restuarant is no longer there.  My family was disappointed when we noticed.  It wasn't half-bad.

Just visited Dick Clark's AB Grill at the Molly Pitcher rest stop on the NJ Turnpike a few weeks ago. VERY Nice Place! Well done despite being part of a rest stop complex. Great food and awesome theming (even though no game show reference). There are several flat screen TVs on the walls -each playing a different Bandstand episode.

There's one about four miles due south of my house, in suburban Kansas City.  It seems to be a busy place.

There appear to be two full ones still existing...one in KC, and the other in Branson, Missouri (The Entertainment Capital Of The World!), which appears to be connected to the American Bandstand Theater.

The remaining outlets are all restaurants in airports.

Yeah, the one that was a point of contention in "Bowling for Columbine" (at Great Lakes Crossing mall in Auburn Hills, MI) has long been closed.

Including the one in the Salt Lake City airport -- during the 2002 Winter Olympics -- had all of their TVs on the Golf Channel.
