I suppose it depends on whether you think going on a gameshow is a job or not. I prefer to think of prizes as gifts. If your grandmother gives you $20 for your birthday, do you immediately declare it to IRS? If not then why not?
Actually I couldn't care less, I'm British and I've failed to win anything over here. Not that we pay taxes on winnings anyway.
