Question about 'Grocery Game'
« on: February 13, 2005, 11:13:31 PM »
Do they always (or almost always) have an item priced below a dollar as one of the five available?  If not, you could make a case to widen the gap to $19-$21, or more.  If they do, then forget it; a dollar is fine.

Sometimes they have an item under a dollar, but not always.

Again, you are suggesting that it is the birthright of the Grocery Game player to be able to win the game by selecting a single product. I agree that it's a pretty hard game now, and I wouldn't mind seeing an increase in range ($20-$22, maybe?) but not for that reason.

I don't think that's what he means, Chris. I think he means if you're at $19.99, you could very well be screwed. Still not very likely to happen, though.

Whoserman is in fact right.  Being at $19 and change does make your task a little harder, unless you have index cards or a candy bar to bail you out.  If you want to take 30 of something to get to $21, that's your bidness, I'll gladly take one supplement, and then work from $12 or $14.

Not really; I've seen it more than once --- contestant at about $19.70 has to take something worth $1.69. Granted, the responsibility for avoiding such a situation does fall upon the contestant, but it'd be nice to at least see a $1.29 Little Debbie on the table.

I understand that. But if you ARE at $19.99, you screwed yourself, didn't you? The game doesn't start you there. You simply have to be a more careful shopper.

What if they DO throw you that bone and throw a 99 cent box of Kraft Dinner out there, and some jackbag snaps up 20 of them, for a robust 19.80? Same situation, but they already burned their life preserver. Even the Little Debbie's won't save them there.
