Good time for 'Feud' fans

Now is a good time for 'Family Feud' in afternoons.

The daily hour really shows how different Richard Dawson and Ray Combs were. Its the difference between night and day really. In my opinion you are either prefer the Dawson half or the Combs half with no in-between.

Right now the in the ABC run Richard has been at his droll, unpredictable best and shows why he was the shows marquee draw in the late Seventies.

In the Combs half Ray, with over a year of expirence now, acts like a clown throughout most of the show, sometimes even bringing the game to a halt that understandably must have driven Howard Felsher nuts. For instance yesterday he had the fifth players on each team switch sides during a round.

Apples and oranges. I like apples.

Speak for yourself.  While I acknowledge that Dawson and Combs were very different in their hosting styles, I actually like both of them.  The hosts that came after them, on the other hand...

You mean like Louie "Is it up 'dere???" Anderson? His voice got so much on my nerves, it made the show unwatchable.

I suggest you go back and read the entire post (at least my words).  You will then realize that I came to the conclusion that I do not think highly of the successors to Dawson and Combs.

Er... you DO realize that he was agreeing with you, right?

EDIT: Looks as though Aaron beat me by a minute.  But I can't resist commenting on this...

However, he's gotten pissy on more than one occasion over people mentioning it upon his exodus.

That's Chuck Gibson, by the way. For all of your snarky needs. :)

Not people in general, just those who take pride in being narcissistic irritants -- actually, ONE person who takes pride in being a narcissistic irritant. :-)  I know he didn't specify, but I never saw him get upset over anyone else mentioning his name.

Not that this isn't funny, but steering back to the topic of Feud...I have to agree with Tony and Aaron.  In my opinion, Richard and Ray were both perfect hosts for the show in completely different ways.

Oh come on.  Everybody knows the right way to type the above is "K*****-Gibson". :-)

If you have to censor Chuck's last name, I insist you censor mine as well.  What did the guy ever do to you?

Agreed... I'm not sure why Paul thinks that liking one automatically means not liking the other.  I don't think I'd have enjoyed seeing Ray kiss all of the women, or Richard clowning around -- but each had his own style that IMO was perfect for the show at the time.

You know what pissed me off about Karn, the other day this lady needed about 50 points on the last question for the 20,000 dollars.  Well she gave a good answer.   Karn doesn't build it up AT ALL and he just reads it in his monotone voice and suddenly you see a huge 40 pop up.  Then he mumbles "oh by the way it was number 1" AFTER the reveal.

That was one thing Dawson and Combs did so well.  Build up suspense.  They would have been saying, you know this is the number 1 answer.  It could be enough....  is it?  SURVEY SAYS!

Then other times a family needs like 65 points.  And Karn gives them false hope that it might be up there.  He's not even kidding around and goes "is it ____ for 65 points?"

Karn needs to go back to hosting school.  Where are the good game show hosts these days...

Karn is growing on me, but the entire Feud staff needs to be locked in a room and watch a marathon of Feud episodes, Dawson and Combs. I know the show is gaining ratings and is getting a seventh season, but there's still some things that need change. Then again, I can only imagine how that would go:

STAFFER: Hey, Richard Dawson just doubled the points and nothing happened. Did someone hit the mute button or something? Is there even an audience there?!

With that out the way, I will give Karn some sort of credit for how he tries to lighten the mood when a family has obviously lost Fast Money.

(let's say they have about 120 points, and it's the last question)
You need 80 points...we surveyed 100 people. (laughs from audience)

It does at least get a chuckle out of me. :-)

Now celebrating his 22nd season on GSF!

A true testiment to the difference in audience (both live and probably at-home) and their attention spans. Richard and Ray used to get laughs off the fact somebody needed 100+ without having to specify it was impossible.
