Family Feud with the game show hosts
« on: March 30, 2005, 12:11:39 AM »
I loved the Family Feud Battle of the Game show hosts week with the Heavenly Hosts vs the Magnificent Mcees. Seeing all of your favorite game show hosts that you loved on your favorite game shows now older.
Also how they weren't their "cool, calm, and collected" selves and were sweating under the pressure and nervous as heck.
How they all were on one stage together, that is in my opinion, a first-time ever!!
I remember when this aired on November 14-18th 1983 in syndication as I was a nine-year old living back in Florida then.
How Richard Dawson smart-alecky played with everybody's emotions?
If you ask me I think that only Bill Cullen & Betty White from the MM team were the only two smart ones in the whole entire ten hosts of people and how they won their team four games out of five.
How everybody else looked like they were lost in space?
It made me laugh to this day as I got the shows on tape.

Leslie Uggams was everyone's favorite host, sure she was. I think the GS hosts week on Card Sharks and the H2 game show weeks trumped the Feud week. Dawson Feud was starting to be a shadow of its old self by 1983.

I wouldn't say all the hosts looked "lost in space"...Jim Perry, for instance, was a good player, that whole Scope mishap on Fri's show notwithstanding.

A few interesting things about that game show week...

I think of all the celeb weeks Feud did, this was one of the best. Richard actually seemed to enjoy himself, which is saying a lot, considering by this point of the run, Richard was getting bored.

Watch carefully during one intro... I swear Nipsey was making an obscene gesture when being introduced.

Also, Bill Cullen was caught walking on camera. Apparently, he thought they went to commercial, and he went ahead and walked out to the center. His walk was VERY stiff and slow.

Also when it was time in one point for Bob Eubanks and Jim Lange to play or pass to control the board I could have sworn that when Bob reached out to shake Jim's hand, Jim didn't want to shake Bob's hand in return. As I thought that was wierd.

I'm wondering if Jim knew something Bob didn't.  Namely, the fact that Jim was about to helm the one-week revival of TNG and felt guilty about it.

(I prolly shoulda waited til Friday to post that.)

Why would Bob be upset with Jim hosting TNG? Bob was doing Dream House (which, interestingly enough, was the only show he hosted not mentioned in his book) and obviously knew he couldn't have hosted it. So who better to get than the host of Newlywed Game's companion show? In hindsight, however......

This is Zach we're talking about. He automatically speaks for everyone, and don't you dare try to do anything about it!

Why? Because he's the Great Zach Horan ©, Game Show Supergod at large.

Forgive me for disagreeing with you, but I thought Perry did look lost at times throughout that week (and I thought there was some uneasiness between Perry and Dawson whenever Dawson brought up CS, perhaps because CS was unable to survive long-term against FF) .  I never thought Perry looked all that comfortable playing P+ for Kennedy's first week either.  Maybe it was a psychological thing--whener Perry was in control of his element he was fine, but book him as a guest and away from his element and he's not as good (IIRC, SP never booked him, nor did SCRABBLE for their GS weeks).

YMMV, as usual.
