The Casino Awards: Coming Soon

I am more confused and afraid about this one than anything.  I knew it would happen eventually, but for some reason I wasn't planning it being on GSN.

A few selections from the press release....

Quote
The GSN CASINO AWARDS will be broadcast live from Las Vegas in December 2005
on GSN in the U.S. and Canada, and will be licensed to other networks
internationally.  Nominees and winners in most categories will be determined
by a new casino board made up of professional players, entertainers, producers
and executives.  Winners in selected categories will be determined by the
public through voting on GSN.com, through mobile phones, or through GSNi,
GSN's new remote control interactive television product.

Quote
GSN CASINO AWARDS will recognize the top men and women in dozens of
categories, including the following:

Best Professional Poker Player / Best Celebrity Poker Player
Best Professional Blackjack Player / Best Celebrity Blackjack Player
                             Best Casino Comedian
                              Best Casino Singer
                             Best Casino Magician
                       Best Casino-Related Movie Scenes
                        Best Casino-Related TV Scenes

Darn. I read the title and I was hoping there would be nominees for Best Chip Clip and Lowest Bonus Payout.

I can envision the statue now: a trophy with a Barbie doll made up to look like Casino Night on it. (Now that's cheesy.)

These smack of a series of awards given by Casino Player magazine, in much the same categories, over the years. I would, therefore, fully expect "best casino comic" to be Danny Gans, "best casino magician" to be Lance Burton, etc. because no one can dispute that they are the best in their fields.

But I think with regards to "best blackjack player" and "best poker player", GSN is going to show a clear preference toward those who have appeared on their casino programming. Which isn't fair, because in poker particularly, there are a lot of fine players who have never graced GSN with their presence.

How boring.  I can't imagine anything more boring than best poker awards.  zzzZZZZZ     GSN is probably airing it because no other station in their right mind would touch it.

On the other hand, isn't Vegas one of GSN's highest-rated markets?  Wouldn't you want to play to your strengths with the hopes of gaining a national audience, especially considering that Travel Channel does more shows about Vegas than just "WPT?"

I'm not sure GSN is the best place for this to air. To me it just seems more like something up FSN's alley...it would be some good filler material for them, at least.
