The Schwab vs. Ken Jennings
« on: April 12, 2005, 07:06:59 PM »
ESPN's Stump The Schwab is now in their second season, and The Schwab (aka Howard "Howie" Schwab) is back and kicking butt.

But...how would sports' Mr. Know-It-All do against game shows' Mr. Know-It-All, Ken Jennings? Since Ken has tackled sports questions on Jeopardy!, I'm pretty sure he could take the Schwab down.

If they'd actually be playing "Stump the Schwab," Ken would have no chance in hell of winning.  Seriously, compare the sports questions on that show to those on "Jeopardy".

While Ken has tackled sports questions, I'm not certain that is one of his strengths.

It's not one of his strengths...he avoided those questions like the plague.

Then again, we don't know that the Schwab doesn't know anything else but sports, so...
I suppose you can still learn stuff on TLC, though it would be more in the Goofus & Gallant sense, that is (don't do what these parents did)"- Travis Eberle, 2012

  • Just leave the set; that’d be terrific.

I think Pat O'Brien would win.

Seriously, the whole idea of KJ being on "Schwab" is inane.

Teddy Nadler.

No--Herbert Stempel.

No--Charles Van Doren--wait a minute, Dan Enright's not here to give him the answers...

Alright, forget Ken Jennings; how about The Schwab vs. one of the Geeks from "Beat The Geeks" (which Stump The Schwab was based on)?

Clearly you're not getting this, so let's try laying it out for you in real small words so you'll understand them:

The Schwab knows SPORTS. Little things about sports.

The Geeks (the stable Geeks anyhow, obviously if they had a Sports Geek as a special guest, that would be something else) do not know sports. They know their own things.

Ergo, in a game where you need to know details about SPORTS (such as Stump The Schwab), the Schwab will win. Because the questions are all about small details about sports that the others would not have a reason to know, since they are Other Kinds Of Geeks.

In a game of general knowledge (uh oh, we're moving into big words), where the questions do not focus on small details about any one topic, it's a crapshoot.

You know. Crap. As in your two questions in this topic.
