It didn't get much promotion on ESPN (remember what they did with ESPN Trivial Pursuit?), but the sports net unveiled a new game tonight.
Teammates
Premiere Date: April 12, 2005
Host: Stuart Scott
Premiere Show Guests: Jeremy Roenick (former 2-Minute Drill guest) and Sean Burke, of the Philadelphia Flyers (ironic, because of the NHL lockout game shows like Stump the Schwab and Teammates are on ESPN)
Cheryl Ford and Swin Cash of the WNBA's Detroit Shock
Dante' Stallworth and Deuce McAllister of the New Orleans Saints
Format: Two rounds. Round one is obviously based on The Newlywed Game. Stu asks a question to one teammate about the other, who is not on the set...Well, if you know NG, you know what happens. Instead of a card given to the player who answered the question, however, the answer is given on the screen as Stu gives it. Then the teams trade places, with the other teammate answering a question about his/her other teammate. Each question is worth 15 points for a correct answer, none for a wrong.
Round two is called "2 on Who?" The teammates have to work together to answer questions that were posed to another player or coach of the team they play for. Each correct answer is five points, and each wrong one is worth none. The one who is the winner wins $30,000.
The game: Most everyone can see Round One is a NG ripoff, but Two on Who? is suspenseful.
The host: Stuart Scott. Not him! Chris Berman and Kenny Mayne have hosted games on ESPN before; why can't they host or get someone new like poker commenator Norman Chad? Stu becomes the first to host two game shows in a week since Alex Trebek, BTW.
I give this one a 6 out of 10.
