Game show themes played slooooooooowly
« on: April 24, 2005, 01:11:39 PM »
There seems to be a glitch in Windows XP that, every few months or so, makes all sounds play slooooow until you reboot.  I listened to a few of the gs themes I downloaded over the years and noticed they sounded like something other than gs themes:

MG73, BB87, WoF89: Sound like cruise ship music
MG90: Cruise ship conga music
Lingo '03: Disco is back!
Whammy!: Still sounds like techno-noise
NG85: Sounds more like '70s music than mid-80s
Sweep '93: If GSN revives it, the theme may sound like this
Feud 76: Belongs on a western, perhaps?
Joker 90: Elevator muzak
CS78: Reminds me of a '70s high-school marching band playing a James Bond theme

Discuss.

XP Home or Professional?

SP1 or SP2?
Enjoy lots and lots of backstage TPIR photos and other fun stuff here. And yes, I did park in Syd Vinnedge's parking spot at CBS

Several years ago, I was playing with Sound Recorder (remember that from Win95?). I remember slowing down the "Bullseye" theme, and it sounded like something from a Western movie.
"They're both Norman Jewison movies, Troy, but we did think of one Jew more famous than Tevye."

Now celebrating his 22nd season on GSF!

I can confirm it happens under Home with SP1, because I've had the same thing happen on my old laptop. I don't think this laptop (Home, SP2) has ever done it, nor my desktop machine (Pro, at various points Gold, SP1, and SP2). But I'm not saying that with 100% certainty.

(Lesson to be learned: run SP2.)

I thought that was if you played it backwards. ;-)

Only one thing I hate about SP2, from a tech support standpoint. Four words: "Limited or no connectivity."

I hate the aforementioned words from an end user standpoint, I can only imagine how bad it must be to get 27,000 calls per day from frazzled senior citizens and 19 year old college students screaming "MY INTERNET IS DEAD IT SAYS I HAVE NO LIMITED CONNECTION I THINK THE PRINTER'S RAN OUT OF INK YEAH THAT'S CAUSING IT THE WORLD'S COMING TO AN END HELP MEEEEEEE".

Bah.   There's a reason it'll be a cold day in hell before I work tech support.

Speaking of themes played slowly, it's very noticable on some shows that they played slowed their themes down.  Case in point:  "Shoot for the Stars".  The theme was later used on "Jackpot" and was a lot faster.  Maybe "SFTS" slowed it down to try to make it a bit longer(?)

GUTS: Suspense music.... with an Irish jig in the middle
H²: Talk Show theme (At least, the instrumental parts, anyway)
Lingo Holland: Sounds like an HGTV theme
TTD 70s/80s: A church song (if you changed the synth to an organ)
Hot Potato: Something from Halo 2

After listening to both the 1973 and 1990 versions of MG again slowed down, it sounds like something like you'd hear on a tropical island or something.

BTW, I figured how much to slow the speeds down get what I heard that one day: 15 percent.  Ah, the things you can do with Audacity...

I still use Cool Edit 96; how I love simplicity. Anyhoo, I recorded Winning Lines at a sample rate of 32,000 and slowed it down to 20,000.
It now sounds like Castlevania music.
