Variety.com reports that "Kenny vs. Spenny" is coming back on July 11; a comedians vs. pros edition of "Poker Royale" on July 8; a new season of "Extreme Dodgeball" on July 19; and a new season of "Lingo" on August 1. New shows are "Ball-breakers" (billiards show), premiering July 18, and "Anything to Win," a new 13-episode series about true stories of people who risked everything to win it all. More info here, including all the time slots. Random thoughts...

KvS. Can you say throwaway? The show gets a sleepy-time slot at 1:00 AM, where it will displace the first showing of the much better Street Smarts and get a 0.0 in all demos. My guess is a two-month run at most. But like everybody else, I'll never see it, anyway.

Lingo. Hm, a plum double-run slot at 7:00 PM. Should work well with lead-out Millionaire. Chuck replaces Chuck, though there's no mention of Woolery in the press release. But I'll believe the Prof and other posters on this one.

Poker. The numbers must be good because the shows keep coming. Besides this new celeb-vs.-pro round, there are a bunch of two-hour specials in the bin. The numbers must not be so good for blackjack, because there's nary a word about any new series.

Pool. Looks like they're trying their darnedest to sex up the shows. ESPN makes the game look dry as dust except when the Black Widow bends over the table. Maybe this version will entertain a little more.

Dodgeball. Already heard about all the rules changes on the GSN board. I like the show but it can get same-looking. At least the network isn't running back-to-back-to-back hours.

Anything to Win. Some of the eps sound interesting. A computer programmer outfoxing the Breeders Cup?

By the way, Variety ain't kidding when it says the network's overall numbers have "dwindled." I've been posting the CableWorld numbers for the past few months on the GSN board, and they're not beautiful. Maybe Super Millionaire and the new poker series perked things up in May.

I figured the audience must be getting a little younger and more male from the ads on the network, which don't skew exclusively to tampons and scooters any more, or even tampons for scooters.

I'm not even going to touch the line about Adrienne Curry being the rack girl.  Way too obvious.

Only reason I could see them taking "K v. S" is the Canadian producers roping them into a co-production deal.  For what it is, it's not bad, but Fox Reality should've taken it, because it fits better over there (and nothing else in reality has done well on GSN).  Of course, considering who's in charge at Fox Reality...

I would expect more blackjack in the fall.  It's established that the casino shows are the only original programming that's really working for them.

And even when he's obviously slumming, my remote would stop any time I see Rip Torn on the screen.  I'd rather see a spinoff of "Larry Sanders" with him as Artie, but beggars can't be choosers...

My thoughts:

K vs. S: I've seen a little of "Kenny vs. Spenny"--and that was a little too much. I'll be avoiding them.

Lingo: I haven't been the biggest fan of the show (I liked Chuck's "Scrabble" much better), but "Lingo" is okay. At least GSN is making new eps of a traditional game show. I will check out the new season.

Poker: Meh. Not a poker-watching fan, although I'd prefer it over blackjack (which I've noticed has a tournament on the Travel Channel). I'd rather do the actual playing than watching on TV.

Pool: Hmmm...not sure yet. I'll check it out, but have my doubts that I'll keep up with it. Now a bowling show is what I'd kinda like to see (not kidding). I remember watching "Bowling for Dollars" and liked it. It may be kinda cool for GSN to work out some sort of bowling game show.

Dodgeball: Not a fan. My dodgeball-playing days ended after junior high (and I'm now past 30-something). I can see why the dodgeball show attracts the younger crowd, though. Every episode looks the same to me.

Anything to Win: Probably not my cup of tea. I'd rather watch an actual game show on GSN than a documentary.

I've noticed [blackjack] has a tournament on the Travel Channel.
They've done a couple tournaments but never really committed to the game, though blackjack has crept into some of their Vegas mockumentaries. (I'm in a Prof-ish kind of verbal mood right now.) Seems like it might be a good lead-in or lead-out for their poker shows, which draw by far the channel's biggest audience.

New series of blackjack might return to GSN sooner or later, though Friday night seems like it's edging toward all poker all the time. But blackjack's absence is conspicuous in the press release. I've mostly liked GSN's versions of both games, so I'm hoping.

A MultiChannel story I paraphrased on the GSN board (to avoid the Fair Use Patrol) said that Dodgeball has gotten a relatively modest 0.3 overall household rating but produced GSN's youngest audience. The new season is a classic demo play.

Another MultiChannel story today quoted Rich Cronin as pledging his allegiance to traditional game shows. I doubt that will reassure the Prof or many posters around here or on the GSN Classics board, but that's what the guy said.

I'm curious to see if we get stories like the guy from the UK who sold everything, and then bet the proceeds on one spin of the roulette wheel in Vegas...

The fact that Mr. Cronin actually was a contestant on a game show confirms his admiration for the genre.  I think GSN is doing a good job right now with balance. Devoting prime-time to originals and the audience advertisers want and still managing to find time in the daytime for shows from the past.
Let's Make a Deal was the first show to air on Buzzr. 6/1/15 8PM.

I got a chuckle reading the press release when it said that Ballbreakers was formerly titled "No Limit 9 Ball". Guess marketing didn't think that was extreme enough...

I'm just wondering how GSN got Ewa Mataya Laurance to do the commentary; I thought she was exclusive to ESPN's billiards coverage, working alongside husband Mitch "Don't Call Me Matt" Laurance. But Ewa is pretty hot still. (Hottest of all remains the Black Widow. :)

That's right. Stuff like 'Spy TV', the first 'K vs. S' season and the like just aren't taking up the slots for 'Card Sharks,' 'Feud' etc. during the day.

Ran by the pool coverage over the weekend sometime late night.  I can't believe how Mitch is starting to look like crap.  Wonder if hsi brother is turning out that way.  Hadn't seen much of Matthew since "Duet"....God, that was how friggin' long ago?

WOW.  I thought she looked good about a decade ago, when she was one of the best female billiards players in the world.  It looks like she's gotten younger since then.  Ah, the wonders of plastic surgery...or God bless her Scandinavian heritage.

I must concur with Dave and others, The Black Widow.....wow.

I need to shower...

Poker Royale: Comedians vs. Pros, or as the Perfesser calls it on his site, Canadians vs. Pros. That would have been more interesting (okay, maybe not)...

K vs. S returns for another year? Can we say a big fat mistake? I hated the show and still do. If they put it on, I will really protest it. Extreme  Dodgeball..what's next..extreme jumprope? Those are lame shows..get rid of theme. Poker I'm fine with it. But get rid of those two and dog eat dog..or as i call it crap eats crap. ratings are gonna drop fast maybe but i would not watch these shows at all. sorry for the rant..had to get it off my chest
