I was thinking it was because Jon and Charles appeared on MG before ever being a host.  I would have put Elaine Joyce in this category as well.

MG/HS also had a few GS hosts...in addition to the aforementioned Steve Allen, Elaine Joyce, Dick Martin, Bill Cullen, CNR and Nipsey Russell, they also had:

Bob Eubanks
Bill Rafferty
David Ruprecht
Chuck Woolery

...while MG '90 had Jonathan Prince (before and during the run of his short-lived Quiz Kids Challenge) and Tom Parks.
