We’re on the case and we’re chasing her through history
Chronoskimmer engine’s hot - V.I.L.E. villains, evil plot
Our brave Squadron Leader will help us defeat her
And bring back the loot to its rightful place in time

Tell me, where in time is Carmen Sandiego?
Stop her crime and solve this mystery
Tell me, where in time is Carmen Sandiego?
We’re on the case and we’re chasing her through history

My good friend Sean Altman wrote that song.  (Yes, Sean who used to be in Rockapella, who was on Carmen Sandiego from 1991-1995.)

If anyone is interested, I am producing a documentary about his life, featuring all the Rockapella members who were on Carmen Sandiego, with tons of unaired footage.  It will be out by the end of July.

www.seanaltman.com will have details very soon!

I remember it was on pbs.org when the show was around. The 2nd verse, I remember a little bit of it:

something something, Lincoln's Beard,
Newton's Apple, Disappeared
Some thing something from the Ming Dynasty
and the Nina the Pinta the Santa Maria we've got to get them back

(refrain)

If anyone can help out with this one, by all means, go for it.

Seeing as how the last update to seanaltman.com was on 1/13/04, I'm guessing this project has pretty much been all-consuming.
This has been another installment of Matt Ottinger's Masters of the Obvious.
Stay tuned for all the obsessive-compulsive fun of Words Have Meanings.

Must be; I just spoke with someone who subscribes to Sean's mailing list and he doesn't remember seeing it mentioned either.

Has anyone checked davidschwartz.com lately to see if it's on there?

With all due respect, you're grown men...I think it's time to let go.

Oh no you di'in't, n00b!

Seriously, though, we deal in the arcane (for most). They (World and Time) were good songs, among the best game show themes. The fact that they were geared towards children doesn't change this.

Your opinion. Good themes for kiddie shows? Sure. Good game show themes? Not hardly. Pyramid's is a good game show theme. MGHGH's is a good game show theme. WITWICS is a neato happy kids song.

(Mind, there is nothing wrong with neato happy kids songs. But do not confuse them with actual game show music.)

Of course, YMMV (and it did). I am a big They Might Be Giants fan and, since these songs are kinda-sorta like the educational songs they've done, I really dig them. Then again, I've liked Rockapella ever since I saw them on Fox's old Comic Strip Live show singing Zombie Jamboree in the late 80s. (I always wondered how they handled the "World Trades" line from their version of the song)

Yeah, I'm weird, but so are we all. :)

Mayhaps if we amend it to "World was among the most creative lyrically of all the game shows" we could agree?

Absolutely. I don't think we even disagree about them being good songs. I like 'em fine. And while certainly they are in fact themes from a game show, I think including them in the genre of "game show themes" as we know it is a bit of a technicality.

(And I've never understood the whole TMBG thing, but I listen to Duran Duran, so who the hell am I to criticize. :))

Everyone has their own opinion. One person may hate the Pyramid theme and like All Star Blitz theme or something.

I'm just exagerating. But I think you get the point. :)

They still sing the world trade line in concert.  Throughout the whole documentary process I've had to go to many concerts to do interviews with Rockapella members, managers, etc.
