$10000 in prizes, eh? I'd forgotten the bank wasn't for cash.
Or was there some cash in there? How about a car?

Since I believe it's the 70s version you're thinking of, the daytime version was played for cash--$5,000 base, with $1,000 added every game until won.  (Figures can be corrected.)  It was just for merchandise on the nighttime show--and I don't remember if a car was included.

Yes, a car was included, along with trips (mostly to European cities).  The only cash won on the nighttime show was for the games themsleves, or from the bonus round.

On the daytime show, the bank went up $500 originally for each game it went unclaimed, and $250 later on in the run.

The change to $250 occured the same time they changed the rules to allow opponents to automatically get the boxes if a contestant got the answer wrong.  During the first several weeks of the show, each box had to be earned, which led to some very long games.
