I think part of the appeal of WOF's bonus round is the feeling of the home audience that someone on any given night can win the $100K. Likewise, in the blind audition era of WWTBAM, I felt like at any time somebody could win $1 million. The realization that nobody would likely win the top prizes, IMO, hurt "Greed" and "Super Millionaire".
