[quote name=\'MSTieScott\' date=\'Jul 15 2005, 02:35 PM\'](You've just answered the $1,600 and $2,000 questions in the category correctly, you have a $10,000-some lead, and the Daily Double is in the $800 box. A $900 wager?!?)

Alex: You have a $13,000 lead. You might consider that...
David: I'll wager $100, Alex.
Alex: ...You chicken.
David: Bawk, bawk.

Oh noes! The contestant is using his right to pick freely from the board! Get me the remote, Marge, I think that nice young man Pat O'Brien is talking about Must Love Dogs!

I'm with Scott on this one.  It's a minor annoyance, but yeah, it just feels wrong.  Didn't like it when Chuck Forrest did it twenty years ago, don't like it now.  In all honesty, it probably IS a better strategy, especially if your goal is to burn them off with conservative wagers and just keep your opponents' hands off of them.

I don't see David as being so totally dominating as Ken was, so the luck of the odd Final Jeopardy ought to catch him sooner than it did Ken.  Still, he's dominating enough that  you can pretty much expect he'll be leading at that point.
This has been another installment of Matt Ottinger's Masters of the Obvious.

I don't find him nearly as intimidating as Ken, who seemed to know almost everything.  It was uncommon for me to get more than one or two clues that nobody else got when Ken was playing; with David there seem to be at least half a dozen clues each day that I know that none of the contestant that day do.

And David got lucky on the July 15 show that his opponents didn't go looking for the second Daily Double in DJ.

I gotta go with Scott.  I don't quite know why, but there's just something about David's attitude that's making me root for his opponents.  When Ken was the champ, I wanted to see him keep winning.

I think David seems overly-nervous at some points, and then when he loosens up, he gets a little overly-confident. You can sort of tell by the tone in his voice. One thing that Ken Jennings had was that he was loose and humble at the same time, and he was just very genuine. I think that's why it was so satisfying to see him win.

As for whether or not he's the next Ken, I doubt it. He seemed to dodge a few bullets today, and based on his game-play, I don't think he'll win too many more games. I would predict that he'll be the Kit Salisbury to Ken's Thom McKee.

Surely you weren't rooting for him to take down our esteemed EP?

I don't mind David starting off in the 4th row of clues($800/$1,600).  It's his DD wagers that bugs me sonetimes although he went $4K on the last episode to basically sew it up before FJ! & $6K earlier this week when he was under serious pressure to maintain his advantage.  I didn't see enough of Chuck's style 20 years ago to compare David to but what he's doing is starting to get old on me.  Hopefully, I'd like to see one of his opponents bring him down the HARD way.

Why?  If I got on the show, and found the Daily Double under "Those (bleeping) Phrygians," you better believe that I'm dropping $5 on it, and not a dime more.  It's a viable strategy.  If he likes the topic, he puts down some coin.  If not, he doesn't.  I admire someone who doesn't just bet $1,400 just because he has the money.  I hope he lasts for a good long while.

For that matter, like I said in an earlier thread, every DD that he finds is one that his opponents don't get to play.  They then have to work harder to catch him, and before you know it, David has a $21,000 lead.

What?  Winning?  Winning big?  Getting Italian Literature questions correct?

And how would that happen?  With a two-by-four?

It means winning a game that has "Translating Karlbergese" as one of the categories.

To Craig, this means some TV Violence. Not violence WATCHING TV, but since Craiggers is so find of smashing sets, he'd like to see his opponent smash a TV over Madden's head.
