You're right, he had won 4 matches, because I taped Monday's show, and he had just won his 5th match to retire with $63,105.

I also finally got to see how those prize cards work, and they're not bad, but I have a question. I noticed that in the next match, the winner won a $500 prize card, but after playing the MC, their total did not reflect winning $200 for the match like in all the other versions of Card Sharks. My question is: Was this supposed to happen, and what did they give you for winning the match if for some reason you didn't turn over any prize cards?

Brian actually won only three matches, winning the car in the first two bonus rounds. No $100 was awarded for winning a maingame in the prize cards era of Rafferty CS. Nothing was awarded for winning a match if no prize cards were turned up.

Brian Hunt himself posted in ATGS around 1997, when the Rafferty CS first aired on GSN. He said he was told that winning one more Pontiac Fiero would place him over the $75K limit, which is why they gave him the exit after that third win.

But he didn't win the third Fiero. A good Money Cards would've put him over the limit also. His early exit makes no sense. Or is this like the "John Harlan will never work for Merv Griffin again" remark we hear every now and again which never legitimately gets backed up.

The backing-up in this case comes from Brian Hunt, not from just a closet GS fan as the John Harlan/Merv Griffin alleged issues. Brian reported in his post in March 1997 that they would retire him once he hit $60K at the end of his third game. They stopped tape after his third bonus round ended and decided to do that.

That's how it was done for Brian Hunt. At least two earlier car winners(i.e. those who won a Cadillac or a Corvette) were retired upon winning their first car, and their total winnings were $30K-$40K. The first car winner did not have to retire despite winning a Cadillac.

Actually, the first two car winners didn't retire. In the early days, cars stayed on until won twice.

So far:
1-3. Number of questions changes from 4-4-3 to 3-3-2, to 4-3-2, and then back to 4-4-3.
4. Audience poll questions introduced(week 2).
5-6. Car round and Educated Guess questions introduced, no longer $100 awarded for a maingame win when prize cards debuted(week 7).
7. Car winners retired undefeated on first car win, then no longer retired.

 But Rafferty CS didn't do a total maingame format change like PtP did.
