The Perf reports that GSN will air a James Doohan tribute of four Super Password episodes next week.

According to the fantastic Super Password Episode Guide from Jay Smith, this week of shows is from the last week in 1987. So we might get a chance to hear Gene Wood's "The password is..." before each password.

Does anyone know when Gene started to announce each password? I'm looking forward to that.

(OT: Comcast's DVR option is a dangerous, dangerous thing. Having ~80 hours of daytime GSN saved on that thing is daunting and scary. "No, Hayley, we don't have room for Gilmore Girls. I have to leave room for the Passwords tomorrow.)

The exact date I do not know. I DO know it was during the autumnal season of 1986.
The day he started doing it, Gene Wood appeared on camera with Bert Convy at the start of Act II.

Why did they do that anyway? I never saw any problem with just having the password up on the screen. Is it for the visually impaired?

Because they did the whispering thing on the original Allen Ludden version in the 60's. It's a nod to history.

But that was back when TV receptions weren't so good and maybe people couldn't see the words through the static. lol
