So...I'm looking forward to when we hit the episodes of SP where we hear more of Gene's dulcet tones.

I know it's been discussed here before too, but when do the new rules on P+ take effect? Do we have a definitive answer?

OK, fine, call someone out when it's necessary. And no, I don't want this to become the GSN boards...

And for those who didn't read "The Box" or visit Curt A.'s web site, the practice of whispering the password was Bob Stewart's nod to his mother, who could not read English, even though she could speak it, so she (and other other immigrants who couldn't read English) wouldn't be left out.

[quote name=\'mitchgroff\' date=\'Jul 21 2005, 01:59 PM\']The Perf reports that GSN will air a James Doohan tribute of four Super Password episodes next week.

According to the fantastic Super Password Episode Guide from Jay Smith, this week of shows is from the last week in 1987. So we might get a chance to hear Gene Wood's "The password is..." before each password.

We also miught get to see the full closings on some of this week of shows, as it is the first week of shows without fee plugs at the end of the show. The practice stopped on all NBC game shows airing from 12/28/87 to 1/18/93, although WIn Lose or Draw never had end of show fee plugs on the daytime version which began on 9/7/87.

At one-twentieth the size. But, yes, we may get to see the MGP logo soar into the air, sans the sound of the air blast.

To answer a question started early in this thread, Gene Wood started whispering the password the week of October 20, 1986. I too saw no reason for this change. Of course, I saw no reason for a lot of changes that SP took on during its run, like the different camera angles during the end game (and, later, the celeb intros and Ca$hword) and the contestants already being on the set when the show started.

Then again, is it much of a change when it's using something the original show used in the first place?

A minor "whoosh" for you, as the point of my comment was that Brendan is complaining about other changes that most people didn't even notice, much less care about...

I was about to post a little reply saying I also thought the changes were pretty much unwarranted, but I did like some aspects of the different screen setup for the bonus.

Especially the switch to color in 1966. Notice they were cancelled the following year. Coincidence? Irony?

The Doohan/Dorn episodes have aired on GSN, but not since 1997. There is about a year of SP episodes that have never aired on GSN, from February 1988-March 1989 IIRC(save for the finale)

I'd like to know this too.  The best we can come up with now is probably early 1982, meaning the changes only took effect for the last three months.

Actually, the latest it happened was November 1981 (Chuck Donegan has an 11/81 ep with Audrey Landers and Regis in his collection in which those rules were in effect).

If that week wasn't the first week of the rule change, the change could have coincided with P+ taking CS' time slot, which was just a few weeks earlier.  Or it could have happened earlier or later.  :)

BTW, the eps GSN is now showing are from August 1981.
