Temptation ratings?
« on: July 30, 2005, 07:05:49 AM »
So having friends who live in Australia hath its priveleges: I have a DVD of the first week of Temptation.

What I would like to know is, for those who follow TV ratings closely, is there a way to conveniently tell if it's doing well? The production values are GREAT, and I'd LIKE to think people are watching it, but of course we've seen much better shows crash and burn over the years...

I dont know why you are bragging about beeing able to see a few episodes of Temptation, wow big deal.

Ive seen a few episodes and I agree about the production values are over the top, to the point where it might get to fancy for people to watch, like Who wants to be a millionaire has.

But it lacks life in the show, to be honest I find the host incredibly bland, the only thing good is his eye candy co host.

Because he has a show that is not being broadcast in the US, of an exciting version of a fan favorite game show.
I did the same thing when I got the Leslie Crowther TPIR ep, so why shouldn't he do the same?

So what did you expect? The same production values of the 1980s? It seems that modernization=BAD to many people around here, and I don't get that.

Because we haven't had a form of $ale of the Century in the US in 16 years, except for reruns. Austrailia has had it on and off since the early-80s. Do you mind?
"I just wanna give a shoutout to my homies in their late-30s who are watching this on Paramount+ right now, cause they couldn't stay up late enough to watch it live!"

Now celebrating his 21st season on GSF!

It's just as well, then, that I find your opinion about pretty much anything to be completely irrelevant.

I found Ed to be quite the opposite. He's a good reader (which is the #1 quality any $otC host should have), and he drives a hard bargain during the Gift Shop segments: in the second show, he's trying to get a guy to buy a digital SLR camera, and the guy's not biting...the cash bribe skyrocketed to two grand before Ed finally gave up.

And Livinia is a _little_ more than eye candy...she participates in the contestant interviews at the top of the show, but yes, her main function is to look nice presenting the Gift Shop and shopping segments, and she does those just fine.

The whole show just leaves you with that "Wow. It IS possible to do it right." feeling.

Well, we would have to have a sourpuss on here to ruin things for the rest of us.  I'm glad Chris got his DVD.  I'd love to see more of the show myself.  I said "WOW" when I first  saw it back in the 80s in the US, and I said the same thing when I took a look at the snippets of Temptation that  are available online.  I really do hope it comes back to America, and to hell with the sourpuss' opinion.

Then we shall make that happen. I'm not active in the trading circuit, nor do I wish to be, and I'm not gonna make 47 copies for people, but I do want to take a stab at remastering this thing (it came to me without any kind of navigational menu, and I'm thinking I should be able to add one pretty easily), and once I have done that I will track a few people who are in the circuit down so we can get a few copies of this into circulation and start spreading the love. :)

(Unless it's already out there. I know Donegan mentioned he was getting it too.)

I'm converting the tape for Donegan (thanks Chuck!), and I agree, the show is very solid.

The only, very minor, nitpicky thing, is that they decided to overuse The Font That Every Dramatic Overseas Quiz Show Has Used For Seven Years.

The new set, the little cash game at the end, extra rapid fire rounds: sweet. I enjoy it. There's no reason this show as it airs in Australia couldn't work as a prime access show here.

PS: That Crowther TPiR ep was a real treat as well. Complete, over the top, glitz. LOVED IT!

Yes I am a sourpuss when it comes to this game, its over hyped and what ever people say the host which I cant even remeber since he's bland and generic to me.

I would love this show to sprout many international spin offs im not complaining about that I know the UK will get one, one day its been to long since Cheggers got booted off Challenge TV thank god might I had.

I said that bragging coment because I hate people to brag what ever they went out of thier way to get a hold of a copy come on its a video or DVD containing video.

What I also dont like is also this might seem weird the podiums to the right of the camera and im used to it on the left of the camera here in the UK.

Enjoy whoever gets a copy of this show Ive got a feeling it wont be lasting long, its to expensive for Nine Networks already failing budget.

So, if "The Price is Right" changes the red podium to pink, will that ruin it for you too?

My intent was not to brag, I was merely providing context for my question.

Yeah, that's an exceedingly asinine reason to dislike a show.

Based on your past sputterings I won't worry overmuch about placing a lot of stock in that assessment either.

On a more interesting note: can any font hounds provide unto me the name and/or location of a reasonable facsimile to the font used on the show?

EDIT: I have discovered the font is Bank Gothic, if that helps anyone.

EDIT AGAIN: Casey Buck came through for me. Thank you, Casey!

clemon79 even you even bother to read how Nine Networks money worries are I which you clearly dont, why are you even commentating.

Also the quote about the podiums its not a reason I dislike it just on that its just that its not right to me, I dislike the show because its to ritzy, the host is crap and so on.

Your opinion. Based on a complete absence of aesthetic sense, but your opinion.

with regard to the people who are bragging that they have seen some episodes of temptation, why don't you put it as a torrent or on ares.

Have a great evening
