What sucks most about this was, we had a town here in Connecticut picked, bussed, and taped.... and now it will sit on a shelf never to be seen...

What sucks about that most, for me, was that not only did I get to go behind the scenes for a story,  I also appeared on the show anchoring a segment for a stunt. That too, will never be seen.... and I was damn good. :)

I'll have to rely on Weather Channel live shots again for my national exposure....cause standing on I-95 counting inches of snow makes for great cable television.

I'll ask for clarity: Those in tapings that won't be shown...do they still get to keep the prizes they received though their episode(s) didn't make air?

So did I, ive only seen episode one I havent had the chance to get any other yet hopefully sometime more will appear.

It goes to show that British hosts in the US just dont work, can anyone name a show succesfully hosted by someone born in the UK and having a British accent.

Other than Craig Ferguson after Letterman is the only person that comes to mind, but Scottish accent always goes down well ;)

Well, there WAS this little show called Family Feud.......But it only ran for 9 years with Richard Dawson the first time, and 1 year the second time he hosted it. ;)

How about Jimmy Carr with Distraction.  Weakest Link was successful before they decided to do all celebrity.

How do I say this without sounding like a complete nincompoop?

To my ears, Dawson's accent was more Americanized on FF and MG than on, say, HOGAN'S HEROES.  Until my mother told me he was British, I had no idea (while I was around during HOGAN'S, I really didn't catch on to the series until the reruns and by then MG7x was already well into its run).  I always thought he did a good job with most dialects.

Prime time "TWL" wasn't all-celeb--just a lot of celebs during sweeps.

I would've loved to have seen Matt, but "My Kind of Town" was wasting "ExM:  HE"'s lead-in every week, so it's not surprising.

However, Berman still has it on his prime time list today--but I just checked the ABC web site--the double pump of "ExM:  HE"'s moved to 8 and "AFHV"'s in at 7, so it's official.  Drat.

I would have liked to have seen Matt's bit, too, but this really doesn't come as much of a surprise. The first week, I said, okay, this is inoffensive. The second week, I didn't see anything I hadn't seen the first week. Plus, and I'm sorry if this is hard-hearted, but I couldn't give a rats ass about some people from a small town from a part of the country I've never seen. They could do a small-town version of TPiR and I wouldn't care, they are all strangers to me. I'm sure it does boffo numbers in Mule's Crotch the week they're on the show, tho.

Also it doesn't help when they use the word "game" heavily in the promotions, and the only "game" that actually gets played on a given show is Name Your Neighbors at the end, which despite Johnny's best efforts to make it interesting and dramatic, really wasn't. I'd guess a good number of viewers who tuned in to "try the show out" were put off when they found out it was a lot more "fun" than "games".

No Doug you dont he didnt sound English when he hosted it at all, ive not seen many episodes of Family Fued with him or any other host for that matter, but he doesnt sound English to me by then.

Sorry for this double post.

Jimmy worked because its comedy central not a regular network, Anne was only successful really since NBC pushed her to the moon, the buzz of you are the weakest link good bye wasnt even a fad in the UK till NBC made it one and somehow the buzz got here.

Point is, you suggested that MKOT failed because the host was British, asked for examples of successful shows featuring hosts with accents, and have been given several examples.

MKOT failed because it, well, sucked, not because of any kind of prejudice on behalf of the audience, as you backhandedly suggest.

The other town that's not going to make air is Egg Harbor City, NJ, which is not too far from Atlantic City.

I never did it backhandedly what I meant was true I wonder how it would of lasted if it had an American host.

I think the format was great, maybe its because Britain has been spoilt with this kinds of shows for years.

For that matter if an American host came over here to do a show and failed id think the same thing if it was hosted by someone from Britian.

My silly way of thinking I guess.
