KHOU Pulls Dastardly Deed 25 Years Ago

Back in the late 70's, Bob Barker had a contestant from Hot Springs, Arkansas.  He asked her if she watches TPIR, and says they don't have that show in Hot Springs.

And in September 1980, Houston joined that unfortunate list!  After 8 years, KHOU knocked off a classic to have a syndicated talk show called Hour Magazine.  The 2nd worst programming decision Houston ever made.  And for Houston game show fans, they were stuck with the "BC" networks (ABC/NBC).

What did that cost Houstonians?  The debut of (Family Feud end theme) GRAND GAME! & Samoan Pauline being the first $10,000 winner who picked up & chased Bob Barker around.  

KHOU welcomed back Bob Barker in September 1982.

PS:  The #1 worst programming decision...KPRC yanking Classic Concentration (for no reason) to replace that with Santa Barbara!  A soap in the morning, ridiculous!

I always thought KHOU channel 11 ALWAYS aired Price since it debuted.  I guess I was wrong.  

It was no surprise that I never got to see Classic Concentration on channel 2 in Baltimore.  I did get to see the show, however, on channel 4 in Washington.

KGAN ch.2 in Cedar Rapids, IA was another CBS affil that didn't carry Price at one point -- at least in the mid-1990s, when they bumped Bob Barker for Jerry Springer (I think).

And at some point, I believe it was 1999 or so, they aired it at 3:00 in the afternoon, showing some kind of syndicated entry at 10.
