Game show hosts with long hair were quite common then. Even Bill Cullen and Matt Ottinger had long hair in the '70s.
Let's Make a Deal was the first show to air on Buzzr. 6/1/15 8PM.

Going slightly off track here I have a similar question:

When was the photo taken of Rayburn, that was used on the MOGSM specials, taken?  In that picture, he had really long hair and other ding-a-lings surrounding him.  Or was that just a Photoshopped photo that I never noticed?

I believe Rayburn cleaned up his act in '75. The long hair always strikes me as odd, too, but, yeah, it was Hollywood in the 70s.

There's a publicity shot of Gene for "The Amateur's Guide to Love" with long hair, mod turtleneck sweater and a construction paper heart--now that was wacky.

I believe he chopped the mop right around the time Match Game PM debuted, which indeed was 1975. Perhaps this was so he'd be a bit cleaner-cut for the nighttime viewing audience.

My theory is he just looked in the mirror one morning and said, "Wait a minute, I'm 57 years old, right? I need to fix this..."

I was going to use this to give a demonstration of "spoiling a joke by talking about it too much", but Matt might scalp me.

I believe it was around 1976 that Geno trimmed his hair into the style he would maintain for the remainder of the show's run.

Unless GSN has already run them, if it ever comes around during the weekends, you might want to look for the MG '74 episodes in which Geno briefly sports a 'perm' look. I taped those episodes and thought, "Give him a moustache and he could pass for Alex Trebek's older brother!"

Cordially,
Tammy Warner--the 'Suzanna Williams of the Big Board!'
