Deal or No Deal Casting Call
« on: December 14, 2005, 12:22:41 AM »
I just went to the DoND website, and discovered a casting call, complete with an application.  Does this mean we will see more DoND in the near future?

With how desperate NBC is for an audience, they're hedging their bets.  DoND is successful, and they've already got a contestant pool for more episodes, cutting down on overall production time and thereby having more shows faster.  Meanwhile, if the show tanks, all you've done is created a bit of extra paperwork to file somewhere until your rights to produce new episodes of the show expire.

Desperate or not, NBC's operational model for reality and game shows this decade has been to free up casting money for a new season of a show if the execs like what they see when previewing the current season's shows, then order additional episodes after the first two or three shows return good (or good-for-NBC) ratings.

Casting money is a small drop in the bucket compared to the rest of the money NBC drops on production.  Just because they're giving the go-ahead for more "Deal" casting doesn't mean they'll be giving the go-ahead for additional episodes.  Something tells me we'll know for sure next Tuesday morning either way.

Hopefully if DoND takes off, maybe they'll start going around the country to find contestants...was invited to audition, but because it's in LA, had to decline.

Good luck if you do audition. Sometimes you gotta just take the chance. I was seriously considering flying out to audition for this round of Lingo. Would have been great if they accepted solo auditions, but it was mandatory to audition in pairs.

Based on what I've seen for Deal, they are looking for very enthusiastic contestants. If you thought Wheel's contestants can be annoying...

They say it's a hit in 40 countries. Is it the same format in all those countries or is the U.S. the only one to make the bonus game the focus of the show?
Enjoy lots and lots of backstage TPIR photos and other fun stuff here. And yes, I did park in Syd Vinnedge's parking spot at CBS

The "bonus game", as you put it, IS the show.  In some versions, each briefcase is held by a potential contestant and there's a very brief game to pick one of them to be the player on the line, but the bulk of the game is taken up just as the US version will be.
This has been another installment of Matt Ottinger's Masters of the Obvious.

Note: The show features contestants' family/friends. Interviewing/selecting them will ultimately be part of the process.

The bad news is that Deal Or No Deal is only looking for U.S. residents 21 or older and not affiliated with NBC or running for political office.

Damn. I was really hoping to see John McCain square off against Tom Brokaw and Andy Milonakis.

Believe it or not, FWIH, Iris is MUCH older than 21.
