Bob Barker's 82nd Birthday Celebration Week
« on: December 06, 2005, 09:17:45 PM »
Well, I'm happy to see a variety of game shows that Bob Barker appeared in, so in order for me to celebrate Bob Barker's 82nd Birthday next week, I'm continuing to see my own week long marathon called "Bob Barker's Birthday Extravaganza Week", now here's what I have on my own planning this week:

Monday: His appearance on Family Feud with TPIR vs. The Young And The Restless from 1993.
Tuesday: His only appearance on I've Got A Secret from October 1972, His appearances on Tattletales(2 from 1977, 1 from the fall 1977 where he announced that Match Game '77 is coming on in the mornings).
Wednesday: His appearance on Match Game PM from 1975, the last battle of The Price Is Right vs. The Young and The Restless from 11/15/91.
Thursday: TBA
Friday: 2 episodes of Tattletales where he was guest host(one from 12/17/75 and one from the week before Thanksgiving 1976 but it was a Tuesday episode).

I got a suggestion for Thursday, Iris...learn grammar.
I suppose you can still learn stuff on TLC, though it would be more in the Goofus & Gallant sense, that is (don't do what these parents did)"- Travis Eberle, 2012

And, on Saturday Iris will put a picture of Janice on said individual's inflatable doll and put that "Superball" into her plastic "Barker's Marker".

There are those who are fans and know everything, perhaps even a little too much...and that's cool.

Then, there are the Horans and the IrisMason's who make the saner game show fans get typecast into the nerd, dweeb, loser role.

I found something for Thursday: Bob Barker's appearance on Match Game '73 from the week of July 9, 1973, so there's my own list.

Wait, his marathon is cool...if only it includes many edits, credit squeezing, and speed-ups all through the episodes.

You know sometimes it's too easy to pick people apart like this.  I'll defer to one of the elder statesmen.  Mr. Lemon?

The thing that's most important about Bob Barker's birthday is that it's the time of year that he would have had a special birthday lunch with Ralph Edwards, but this is the first time in almost 50 years he's not going to do that. The next most important thing is that this is the time of year when Barker tells CBS if he wants to keep doing "The Price Is Right". So this is more important and could have deeper repercussions than the fact that he was on "I've Got a Secret" once. This coming week could have deep significance for Bob's many fans, TPIR, and perhaps CBS itself.

Sure, GSN could have done a Bob Barker birthday week if they were still running TPIR. For now, the status is quo. All those who want to have it in your mind, more power to you. Just don't get in the way of the big picture.

Ralph may not have been in the best of health the last few years for that, as his son Gary reported in Summer 2004 that he was not able to attend the Game Show COngress in which he was honored. Gary said he was not well enough to go out in large crowds, though Ralph wanted to attend.

GSN DID have a week-long 80th birthday Barker celebration in 12/03 without TPIR being on the schedule, featuring Barker's appearances on MG7x, Tattletales, and his stint on IGAS72. They could have also aired Combs Feud and possibly Barry BtB, but they did not.

I've stated before (I can't remember where anymore) that I think Bob won't leave next season (50th anniversary would be December 31, 2006), but possibly next.

I will now return to my post at Gabbercrombie and Bitch.
