If it's any (excuse the expression) big deal at all, the normal minimum age for game show participation is 18. Is Howie serving adult beverages to the contestants?

While sad, I believe the reasoning for it is so that they legally CAN discriminate on things like age and appearance and whatnot. I recently read someplace that Hooters employs the same terminology when hiring waitstaff for that exact reason.

Well, let me ask this:

Do you think this is considered, in some remote fashion, a "gambling" game, and therefore, cannot have participants under 21?

You can play the lottery at 18 in California. The reason casinos are 21 and over is because of the booze.

Sorry, that's my Iowa bias kicking in...you have to be 21 to play the lottery, AND 21 to go to a casino (regardless if it has alcohol, is indian-owned, or what not).

Dumb law, lots of teens cross the border to Minnesota, and give the Twin Cities area tourism dollars.

I'm not sure how I feel about that inclusion, anyway. Sorta diminishes the stress of "you're up there all alone," doesn't it?

Hate it. Absolutely hate it. Just do a phone game or something like in Australia where 200 are whittled to one, and that one contestant is most always exciting. Regular people are the best part of a show - to see someone who you can relate to, maybe-you're-in-their-shoes-someday kind of person. Meredith's Millionaire has done a good job of getting quality people out of their audition process.

There are very few Grandmas who look like DoND Contestant #1, who might find themselves in her shoes. I hope the dude who plays tonight is more of an everyman.

I'm not coming from this viewpoint with an "I wanna be on this show and would never make it" attitude at all. It's a contributing reason to the disaster that was Bush LMaD 2003...fake contestants.

Two cents. I still like the show though. (Maybe Bobby will show up to guest-host. He's about 19 now, if calculations serve.)

The difference is that you still have to pay for alcohol at a 7-11 (and therefore can be carded at the register), whereas in a casino it's often given out for free.
