It's time for another round of...
« on: January 14, 2006, 03:23:26 PM »
The contestants are in the winner's circle. The celebrity is faced with the final category: "Things that are bogus."

The celeb tries the clue, "counterfeit money." This elicits the response, "Things that are fake." The celebrity nods, pauses for a monent, then gives the winning clue: "Counterfeit money, duuuude."

You're the judge. You decide. Is the clue descriptive? Do you hit the buzzer?

1) I would have hit the buzzer on "counterfeit", never mind the followup, as that is a synonym for "bogus".

2) The rules are "Give only a list". The "duuuuuude" is not part of a list, it is embellishing an item on the list. Bzzzzzzzt.

That's what I thought.

What is a good clue, though? Is there a money clue? Is "Bogus" used in any well-known titles?

That's the perfect clue right there. Thanks, Dick! =P

Those kind of clues work the best for words that are in well-known titles. For example, when the category "Things that are Wonderful" came up on the WC, Dick Clark came in and presented the perfect clue, "The World of Disney!"

Tomarken: "...somebody else could do this job!"

Rod Roddy: "Yes, I'm afraid that's true."

~Rod making a joke after Peter complains that it's Labor Day and he shouldn't be working on Press Your Luck.

That's not buzzable for prepositions?

Maybe the fact that it's a title makes it OK?

They would be lenient with prepositions in some cases, like titles and very common phrases ("a piece of cake" is the one I always think of).

Of course, it's also possible that the judge wasn't paying attention to the post mortem that day. Or did he give it a bell?

("Louis Armstrong's World" is better, anyway.)

Or "Frank Capra's Life".
