"Go to the Extras menu and choose Play All Episodes for $600. The Daily Double graphic appears and then there is an alternate beginning of the first Ultimate Jeopardy Tournament where..."

A question and my answer;

Knowing that Art Fleming had passed away in 1993, if he had been tapped to host the 1984 revival of Jeopardy! instead of Alex Trebek, would the show still be on the air today?

I think not. As much as some here would have preferred Art over Alex, I think that Art would have run into the same problem that kept Gene Rayburn from hosting any revival of Match Game after '84 (i.e. the TV industry's age discrimination). Also, even if the show had survived long enough to see Art's death, it may not have gone beyond that point due to the downturn in game shows around that time (and the potential difficulty of the viewers of accepting a replacement on an ongoing production).

Art died in 1995, not 1993. I'm not sure if Art would have connected with the 80s audience the way Alex did, much as we'd like to think we could have. Art had said in interviews he didn't like certain factors of the J! revival, such as the second and third place players not taking home the cash earned.
