Believe it or don't, the 1980's game show Catch Phrase is apparently being revived for the U.S. market, per this craigslist ad.

I would love to see some host have a go at saying the "Ready Money Round" (as seen in the UK and the First World's Most Outrageous Game Show Moments special).

Anybody wants to take bets on if this will sell? I'm hoping yes, but the dichotomy of television may or may not give us light.

All the best, and hopefully it will sell.

Unless, of course, it sucks. Then it should not sell.

Thing is, it was too early back in 1985.  Watching graphics being drawn on a C64?  Not very fun.  Had they waited a couple of years, it might have worked out better.  I like the concept (and it's beautifully used in the old board game "Whatzit?") but I'm suspicious.  If it makes it, I'll happily watch, assuming it doesn't get programmed in Seattle at 7:30 at night.  If it quietly goes away, I won't be surprised.

So, either way.

When I was younger, we would do the little puzzles (known as "plexers") in class, and I always thought it would be a great idea for a game show. Little did I know that I was about six years too late. ;-)

I wish it the best though.

It's nice to see an 80's show try to make a "comeback" if you will.  Sure the animations were kinda awkward back then, but they made the show what it was.  Now that it's 2006, with technology capable of rendering 3-D graphics, if the animations are drawn smoothly & look visually brilliant, this might have a shot of making it even though we're fast approaching NAPTE territory now.  I wish Catch Phrase all the luck it can get.

The US version's mascot was named Herbie, not Mr. Chips, as I recall.

Us British are polite.

So his full name is Mr. Herbie Chips ;)

It might sell if the judging is less harsh than it was in '85, and if the computer drawings are better designed.  I remember one such example when I saw arrows pointing at lights, and the phrase was "Killing the lights".  It might have worked better if someone was shown with a gun actually shooting at lights.
