Match Game '74!
« on: January 23, 2006, 03:01:13 AM »
There was something I noticed tonight when I was actually watching Match Game on That 70's Hour. (I usually have the TV on, but don't watch, I just laugh from the audio in the background!)

During this week of MG74, it looked like the audience was actually raised. Then when they cut to a shot of the audience to show the husband of one of the contestants, the audience wasn't sunken like they would be in studio 33. To me, it looks like this week of MG episodes may have been shot in either 36 or 46, but I'm not sure. I don't know if this question has been answered recently, but what other studios filmed CBS Match Game? (I know this question was brought up in the olden days back in...that newsgroup, but I don't think that question was actually answered)

So does anybody on here know for sure?

36 & 46 I don't think were built until 87 or so.

Maybe you were confusing them with 41 & 43?

Enjoy lots and lots of backstage TPIR photos and other fun stuff here. And yes, I did park in Syd Vinnedge's parking spot at CBS

An episode of this was shown in the last Feast of Favorites. Was this the only week filmed outside of 33? I would assume so...

Wow, thank you! Yes, I think I got the studio numbers mixed up again. Bad JD! BAD! Good to know we still have the archives from there, although I was mainly looking at posts pre-2001. =)  (those were the good ol' days)

That was the only time MG taped outside of Studio 33, yes. It was the week with Steve Allen, etc (and it was, to my recollection, the only time Steverino was ever on that version of MG).

I got to see MG for the first time in a long time, and this thought popped up.  Was last night's first episode the only one that never had a Super Match in the entire show?  A full game plus two tiebreakers goes a long way toward that, but it may not be the first.

And I love the slates.  Any Johnny Olson is good Johnny Olson.

I've done some looking around just to satisfy curiosity as to why the move happened this one time.

Thanks to the slates, the week prior to this one was taped 2/2/74 (Saturday). The Studio 31 week was taped 2/15/74 (FRIDAY!). Now, as far as I know, they usually taped on Saturday and Sunday. What was in 33 on Friday? Most people should know that Carol and the gang was in 33 on Fridays taping away their dress rehearsal and air show.

So, what does this mean? MG was short a taping day, and had to relocate to catch back up on a Friday. The current week now on was the next day (Saturday) 2/16/74. If I'm right, the week after will be taped on Sunday 2/17/74.

Phew!

Good job.  I kinda figured that Burnett's crew was using 33 that day, but of course where else could I confirm that?

So how did they reconfigure the set for the move to the smaller studio?  Or is the cramped look due to the camera angle?

It looked to me that the turntable and the panel were closer together.  I also have a couple of pics on my computer at home that really show how they shoehorned the set on that stage.

And... is it just me... or did it seem that the audience was louder?

The audience wasn't louder...the audience was closer. It looks like they are packed in more in that studio. Great job digging up that info, Nick!
