If a contestant is up to $1,000 and then is wrong with his final choice, how much does he win?

I ask because I swear I've heard Bob tell the contestants different amounts.

It's not stupid if Bob says one thing one time and another thing another time. I've heard him tell a contestant that he won $1 (since that's what the contestants start with, I guess). Not that it matters much.

Getting back to the question, although it may not be what you're talking about, the contestants *do* win $1, $10, or $100 if they miss while at those amounts. I wouldn't put it past Bob to have gotten that part of the game confused once or twice.

Thank you. So, someone who almost wins the $10,000 will win $0, but someone who does WORSE will win $1, $10, or $100? That doesn't seem to make much sense.

From a skill/payoff standpoint, no, it sure doesn't.  But this is TPIR we're talking about.  You can win two prizes and $500 in Step Up for just one right 'move'.

The $10,000 or nothing decision is made mildly more interesting when you have to put up the $1,000, even though the pot odds are 333% in favor of going for it.

And with those odds, unless you need the $1,000 ... I'd say go for it.

If I was playing Grand Game, I wouldn't even let myself be faced with that question of stopping at $1K. I would leave the obvious item (like the gum) last. Pick the two next ones to get to $100 then deceide which of the remaining three (not counting the obvious one) to pick for $1K.  
Afterall $100 is $100.
