[quote name=\'pyrfan\' date=\'Jan 27 2006, 03:54 PM\']In the summer of 1987, game show broadcasts got thrown off because of the Iran Contra hearings. Sometimes the morning airing of "The $25,000 Pyramid" got bumped to 2:00 in the afternoon. In fact, "Pyramid" showed repeats for four weeks until the hearings were over.
"Super Password" was pre-empted once in May of that year, and they did tape a few four-day weeks to try to get back on track,

This is not a post to argue about news coverage taking precedence over daytime programming(CNN was not in as many homes in the 80s as it is now):
The Bill Cullen/Kim Miyori week of SP shows GSN is currently airing(1/27/86-1/31/86) saw the Tuesday show preempted for the Challenger disaster coverage in most of the country(it occurred at 11:50AM EST IIRC, 10 minutes before NBC stations were supposed to air SP on the East Coast). Did they tape a four show week at some point to make up for that pre-emption? A few Wordplay weeks didn't air Mon-Fri either IIRC.
Also, in the Summer of 1987, Card Sharks aired at 12:30PM EST on some days at the height of Iran-Contra, followed by TPIR, which was in reruns at the time, at 1PM EST. Seems odd, especially in this day and age, that CBS would preempt soaps for game shows.
I guess ABC never bothered to air the Bargain Hunters episodes preempted that Summer.
