After all, the affiliates left out in the cold will have a lot of time to fill looking for new syndicated programs (via FM), and the CW will have a lot of hours in the day to fill, as well (possibly from CBS's end).
Virtually every mention of the show from winter press tour said that celebs would be involved, usually with "celebrities" in quotes or "C-list" preceding the word.
The A-Listers are waiting for the return of "Battle Of The Network Stars", while the B-Listers are waiting for the resurrection of "Circus Of The Stars", hence the "Game Show Marathon" gets the C-Listers.  <sarcasm meters at full throttle>
Anyhow...
With CBS/Freemantle working on this project, and the announcement today of the CW Network, it seems even more likely now that this could be a launching pad for a new round of game shows.

One would wonder with CBS' WB/UPN merger if they might pull one or two celebs from the new CW stables if they were to stick with CBS-only talent.  It would be a nice way to promote their new "sister network" to the throngs.

Well...Doesn't WB still run the afternoon kids block? WB stations losing their affiliation will have the 3-5 block to fill.
I understand it may be unlikely, but it CAN happen.

No, I believe they recently killed that block. According to Wikipedia (and apply all appropriate disclaimers to that citation), that's been dead for three weeks, replaced with repeats of ER and a double-dip of 8 Simple Rules.

While that's true, it's still a 2-hour network block in the afternoon that current WB affiliates that don't become CW affiliates will have to fill come this fall.

Step 1: See what the UPN affiliate in the same market (who for the sake of simplicity we will assume is going to inherit the ER/8SR block) is running.
Step 2: Buy that.
Step 3: Profit!

My point is, everyone has a hardon right now because they are thinking there are going to be great tons of empty time that need to be filled with new programming, But at this moment one of the preexisting networks isn't filling that time ANYHOW, and the other is filling it...with syndicated repeats.

Neither of these networks ever programmed a daytime block

With WB Kids gone, neither of them program an afternoon block.

That leaves prime time. You are not going to see boatloads of game shows in prime time. You're going to see movies and talk shows and Relic Hunter or whatever that asinine Tia Carrere wannabe Tomb Raider show is.

Going back to the who will be the 6 Celebs question (if you factor in CW players):
My promotional list would be:
1. Anyone from CSI: Somewhere (CSI: <city>, CBS)
2. Brad Garrett (Everybody Loves Raymond, CBS)
3. Someone from a CBS Pilot (TBA, CBS)
4. A lead-ish from Everybody Hates Chris (Everybody Hates Chris, UPN)
5. Enrico Colantoni (Veronica Mars, UPN)
6. One of the two leads of Supernatural (Supernatural, WB)
Hosts: Phil and Jeff with a guest each week that relates to the history of the network and the significance of the game (Betty White, Richard Dawson (if he'd do it), Dick Clark, etc)

Just my 5c
-Joe Kavanagh

Here's a shorter version of clemon's point:  Prime time won't go to game shows on the orphaned stations.  The same shows that currently fill the other 44 hours of their combined day will continue to fill those 44 hours.
Protecting idiots from themselves just leads to more idiots.
