Best of Sports Challenge...
« on: August 25, 2003, 11:33:50 AM »
Hey everyone,

Last Thursday, the final episode of Sports Challenge aired on ESPN Classic.  The next day, they started showing earlier \"Best of\" episodes.

Is this where they always start, or do they show the premiere episode and the earlier ones from 1971?

Thanks!

IIRC, the \"Best of Sports Challenge\" eps aired in the early 70's on CBS weekends. That may explain why they've all been 1972 so far.

They must have the whole run. Chris Lambert has a pic from the premiere on his site w/ the ESPN Classic bug in the corner.

The \"Best of\" shows must be from the 1977-78 or 1978-79 seasons, as the theme on the shows I've seen is the one used briefly late in the run, not the brassy version of \"Get Back\" used for the majority of the run.

ESPN Classic did air the premiere on May 1 this year, with Bob Feller as the mystery guest.  (Go Indians!)  Most of the shows from the first couple of years have aired since 5/1 on ESPN Classic.  Unfortunately (or fortunately, if you're interested in later shows with more contemporary players), ESPN Classic has jumped to 1976, back to 1974, then ahead to the final 2 seasons, with Art James and John Harlan announcing.
