Only Jeopardy! and Who Wants to Be a Millionaire were nominated in the Game Show category, and only Alex Trebek and Meredith Vieira were nominated in the Game Show host category.  In my opinion, at this rate, this may be the last year of the categories.

What does this say about the current state of TPiR, Wheel, and Family Feud, that the Emmy people don't even consider them worthy of a nomination just to flesh out the category?

If you look at it from a different viewpoint, at least Roger D. won't have to fly out to NY this year for nothing.
Enjoy lots and lots of backstage TPIR photos and other fun stuff here. And yes, I did park in Syd Vinnedge's parking spot at CBS

Price is still fine. I feel the Emmy board snubs it because it's not "sleek" and modern like Millionaire, Jeopardy, and whatever else was nominated. :-)

For some reason I thought that Game and Reality shows were in the same catagory, and the first post omitted the reality shows. My bad.

What a hoot! Barker could literally walk to the daytime Emmys from his house -- it's probably less than a mile away!

Would I be correct in saying that in the majority of markets, Jeopardy! and Millionaire are not even daytime shows?

This is gonna sound like something I made up, but I saw it on the Sony website the other day. I don't know if anyone else has seen it, but an ad popped up which stated in summation:

Wheel of Fortune: Has been the number one syndicated show for 23 years, Pat Sajak has won 3 Emmys along with the only SAG award for best game show host, and the show has given away over $250 million in cash and prizes over its history. WHAT'S LEFT? An emmy for best game show! Vote now by visiting this Sony-sponsered website...

Uhmmm, is it just me, or have the people at Sony gone WAY out on a limb here to try and make this happen? As far as I'm concerned, the Emmys are a skewed award which does not nearly give a full or accurate portrayal of what is popular or first-rate television. IIRC, Wheel has never won an emmy for best game show, and IMHO if the Emmys were to represent the true best of what game shows have had to offer in the past 20 years, Wheel, Jeopardy, and TPIR, along with their hosts, would have about the same number each, with Millionaire MAYBE having just one or two and Meredith none...

I've just accepted at this point that the game show Emmys are basically meaningless, and that the nomination and Emmy winning procedures need to be changed, but I know that probably won't happen any time soon either. Oh well... :(
"I'm dressed as one of the most frightening figures known to man...

A TV game show host."--Pat Sajak

A few rules clarifications, since I had a vested interest in studying up on the rules this year (and not for a game show category):

The maximum number of nominees in a category is determined by the number of eligible submitted entries.  In most categories, the number of nominees usually does not exceed 1/3 of the number of submissions, with a minimum of 2 nominees and a maximum of 5.  There are other exceptions when it comes to different categories, ties, etc.; but the small number of nominees in both game show categories simply reflects the small number of initial entrants -- not the quality of the entries.

As for what constitutes daytime, the time window for all categories but one is 2:00am to 6:00pm.  The one exception?  Game shows, of course.  That window is 2:00am to 8:00pm, and a majority of stations airing any syndicated entry must air the show in that time frame in order for the show to be eligible for the Daytime awards.

MICHELE SILVERMAN, WRITER
STEVE D. TAMERIUS, WRITER
BILLY WISSE, WRITER
MARK GABERMAN, WRITER

The talk show writing category's been done away with, so "J!"'s umpteenth writers' nomination competition is Ellen and "The View."  They took advantage of the eligibility year not being a calendar year to give Steve Dorfman a final nomination.

"J!" and "TPIR" each have six nominations, "WWTBAM" has four.  Good luck to all.

For whatever reason, Mark's information above is wrong.  As goongas correctly said, only Jeopardy and Millionaire are nominated in the two major categories, according to the official Emmy site:
