Endemol.... (http://\"http://www.variety.com/article/VR1117942377?cs=1&s=h&p=0\") So what's the over/under on when one of these shows start (other than Gameshow Marathon, of course)?

A comment not related to the contents of the article...

Good heavens, Variety-speak is friggin' annoying.

This is why I seethe whenever it gets pulled out around here.

If you're using it because Variety is paying you to, that's one thing.

If you're using it in any other case, non-mockingly, it doesn't say "I'm inside", it says "I'm a jackoff."

"Show Me the Money"... there's a timely title.

When did "gameshow" become one word? Granted, this is a Variety article, but even in the title of "Gameshow Marathon," the show treats it as one word. Both Merriam-Webster and dictionary.com don't recognize "gameshow" as being correct, so is just this the new thing to do?

I don't understand why A- ABC won't renew Millionaire or, if they lost the rights to it B- Just pick up the rights again unless someone else already did it.  It's a proven ratings getter, but what do I know.

Well, what we _don't_ know is the price Celador might be demanding for the rights. Perhaps they have an inflated value of the concept's worth and they are asking for too much money.

Or perhaps The Mouse is being cheap (see L, NH).

I didn't know you still talked to Brett Pasternick...

Anyhow...was WWTBAM ever on the ABC O&Os?  If so...how would this move effect that?

Perhaps the current administration of ABC doesn't want to greenlight a former administration's show.

As part of its pitch to networks, Endemol stages mock versions of its ideas for execs so that they can actually play the game and see how it works.

Bears repeating.

One thing that could impede the progress of Millionaire for a bit is that it's probably going to Endemol also.  I never know.  Millionaire was the first game show I ever really liked, and I don't get the syndicated version.  I'm always just hoping I can see new episodes eventually.

WWTBAM airs on at least one ABC O&O, WABC.

With the news of Endemol's new/recent formats, and now this piece of information, I'm starting to think that Endemol, as of late, is morphing from the trash-heap of "reality" show producers into the next Goodson-Todman.

Endemol the new Goodson-Todman?  I dunno. I liked it better when the all the game show companies were named for the owner. Bob Stewart, Ralph Edwards, Heatter-Quigley, Hatos-Hall, etc.  Is there a Mr. Endemol?

No, but there's a guy named "Ende" and one named "Mol."  And ironically/coincidentially/shockingly, they own Endemol.

Since the company was born from a merger between Joop van den Ende and John de Mol, the answer is: pretty much, yeah.

So, do we know which one's "Goodson" in this partnership, and which one's just signing (and cashing) the checks?

Well John de Mol cashed his stake of the company in last year, so I suspect it's not him.

According to Wiki, the whole kit and caboodle was sold off to Telefonica in 2000, and de Mol left as creative director in 2004, so I'm guessing both of them are caching checks. But it sounds like Ende played the role of the bitch more of the time. :)

Ende also seemed to have a greater interest in non-television projects like theatrical production, which I believe he is currently involved in (it also seems to me that he may have a show on Broadway right now).

And it bears to point out that Endemol's been doing game show formats in its native Europe for years--many of them licenses of U.S. and other formats.  They got into reality in the U.S. because that's what they could sell.

For our British friends--before Bazal was acquired by Endemol, were they much of a game show company beyond "Ready...Steady...Cook!" or were most of what they did more lifestyle things like "Changing Rooms?"

"The project is described as a question-and-answer game show with a twist"

So was Jeopardy, originally.

I really don't see why the success of DoND is inspiring networks to conser more question and answer games, but I'm not complaining!

Aside from Fremantle leaning really heavy on ABC, could there be a connection in the that "Con Test" will be known as "Ant and Dec's Con Test" in its own country?  These are the guys who hosted the original versions of "Idol" and "Game Show Marathon" (and I think I saw somewhere that this show is their own concept, if owing something to "Squares" and "The Better Sex").

Of course, I would think that they would see if the show did well on its home country before selling it off elsewhere.

One wonders if someone will bring to the U.S. "Saturday Night Takeaway" (unless the failure of "My Kind of Town" shut the door on loose-formatted audience participation shows).

Ant and Dec are great presenters. They handle a variety of formats with ease. I downloaded a great doc on them the other day, and was surprised to know that in their young age of the low 30s, they've already been given lifetime achievement awards for their work, which dates back to a teen drama in the late 80s...

Ryan and Brian were originally supposed to duplicate the Antan Dec success. It only half worked.

Perhaps surprisingly (or perhaps not), no they weren't - Ready Steady Cook is the only one I can think of, they were mainly (indeed)  a company that dealt in lifestyle shows.

And then Big Brother happened.

Anything starring Ant and Dec is pretty much guaranteed a large audience over here - they're pretty much the only stars that can do such a thing at the moment. And quite right too.
