Title: Game show genealogy
Post by: mmb5 on September 01, 2003, 05:10:36 PM
I do some genealogical research on the side and I needed to take a break from some of the dead ends I normally encouter.  So, I thought I would try a couple of game show personalities.

First, I tried Mark Goodson, and got a little info.  I got stuck since the Goodson name is obviously a changed name.   Abraham's (Mark's father) profession was listed as \"masseuse\".  His house, on 1109 O Street, is only a few blocks from Sacramento's downtown plaza.

1-Michla ?
  m. ? Goodson
    2-Abraham Goodson  b. 16-Oct-1875 Russia  d. 25-Jan-1954 Sacramento, CA
    +m. Fannie Krasik  b. 28-Jan-1887 Russia  d. 24-Sep-1986 (mother's maiden name was Smehoff)
      3-Harry Goodson  b. 3-Jun-1901 Russia  d. 12-Jan-1979 California
      3-Evelyn Goodson  b. 1903
      3-Mark L. Goodson  b. 24-Jan-1915 Sacramento, CA  d. 18-Dec-1992 Los Angeles, CA
        4-Jonathan M. Goodson
        4-Marjorie Goodson
          +m. ? Cutt
      3-Elmer M. Goodson  b. 1918

A little more interesting was Kitty Carlisle's.  Her maternal grandfather, Benjamin Holzman, was on the Merrimack in the Civil War and was the first Jewish Mayor of Shreveport, LA.

Abraham Conn  m. 29-Mar-1859  Fannie Vollmer                      Benjamin Holzman   m. 1877   Stella Baer

If you're interested in more of these, let me know and I can do more.  If you could care less, let me know as well, and I'll stop.

Without knowing his true last name, I can't do much.  Rubessa is his adopted name, meaning I can't really find anything about his family.

Here's what I was able to figure out (I had done this one before):
I know his mother (Mary) was alive from 1897-1985 and came to the U.S. in 1911, his step-father (Milan 1884-1968) was a machinist in Chicago, the family address was 6000 South Whipple (which is near Midway).   He had two half-siblings (common mother): Milan Jr. (1923-1981) and Phyllis Mary.

Note: For any future requests, the personality in question needs to be born pre-1930.  Privacy laws sort of precluding any easy (read: free) searches for people born after 1930.

Wow! That's my old neighborhood! I grew up at 57th and Talman, which is less than a half-mile from where Gene lived.

Although I never knew exactly where he grew up, I did know that he attended Lindblom High School about the same time as my Mom did. She didn't think she knew him at school, but then, we only knew of him by the name Rayburn.

Pat Sajak also grew up on the southwest side too (I forgot where exactly).

*Probably hopes he's the first game show host from the north side when he grows up ;)*
