In the Press Your Luck game tomorrow, what are the odds the name Michael Larsen will be uttered?
Is CBS still mad over what happened?

Zero. I have heard from a source that the staff didn't know about Larson until said source mentioned him.

Please give a plausible explanation as to why CBS would still be mad over an incident that occurred on a daytime game show over 20 years ago.

I'd love to know who that source is, then, because if THIS staff (who seems to have enough of a clue and enough interest to try to reproduce these shows faithfully) doesn't know pretty much the single biggest piece of game-show trivia outside of Ken Jennings, I'll eat a hat.
If it doesn't get mentioned, it will be because CBS is still harboring a grudge, which I would NOT find surprising. Mind you, ratings trump grudges every night of the week.

I don't know exactly who you mean by "staff", but I can absolutely, positively guarantee you that there were people on the production staff who know who Michael Larsen was.

It should be noted that June 8 is the 22nd anniversary of the Larson incident, Part 1.

His source tried to defend himself to me, privately, too.
His source is an idiot.

I wonder if it's the same person who wrote that 1981 premiere date in Rich's copy?

There was a pilot for a show called "Press Your Luck" from Columbia Pictures Television in 1981, so maybe the fact-checker assumed the show started in 81. It probably falls under the category of minutiae. I didn't get upset that they didn't have clips from "Second Chance."

No, it really doesn't. I point out once again that there is a VERY DEFINITIVE reference book that is available for $20 at any mass-market bookstore (and $14 from Amazon, if the budget was really that tight) that would have enabled them to get this right. Hell, they were producing this show for the freakin' network that aired it originally, certainly a call over to CBS could have gotten this right.
I'm going to put it in big letters: THERE WAS NO REASON NOT TO GET THIS RIGHT. And if Fact Boy checked one source for this and called it good, he's a crappy Fact Boy.
Is it a small point? Yeah. But the thing is, with each passing week on this show, we keep seeing them miss these small points. I have no doubt that there are folks on the staff who dearly love game shows and wanted to see this done right, but at the same time I am absolutely certain that their hard work is being overshadowed by slop from people higher up on the production food chain who simply don't give a damn.

I could see giving a rat's ass about this if it had cost a contestant money on a Q&A game, but inasmuch as it didn't, in the interest of keeping my blood pressure low I don't see any point in getting all worked up over it.

All I'm saying is that this is very much representative of the "little things" that are making GSM more of a disappointment than the great summer series we were hoping it would be. I assure you my blood pressure remains stable.

I'm a stickler for details and I agree that they should have gotten the date right. To me, it just makes it look like they haven't done proper research...or didn't bother to proof-read Rich's copy.
