Title: Perry CS
Post by: Strikerz04 on July 01, 2006, 09:27:00 AM
So apparently, the last time I saw CS wirh Jim Perry (the 9am weekend edition) we were stuck in late 1978...

...now we're in late 1979 with the updated G2T2 robot with Ed v. La vonne (needless to say this is the first time I've seen the G2T2 reset after a game, it usually carries to a commercial).

My question is, how far late in '79 are we...if we're even still in '79 for that matter.

Jim made a subtle reference to "July 4th" at the open of the show so we would actually be in mid-1980 (after the "improved" G2T2 and the fake "$" sign was added to the MC display, but prior to their tinkering with the rules).

Seems silly that GSN would dig it out to acknowledge the holiday, but I'm not running the network so what the hell do I know...

Not without precedent, though.  Last July 4, the weekday runs of P+ and SP jumped ahead to the (roughly) July 4 episodes of whatever year they were in (P+ skipped from 3/81 to 7/81, and SP skipped from 12/84 to 7/85).  Other weekday runs may also have jumped ahead or back (I don't know, and really, I don't care).

Unless Leland was on P+ around July 4th, the weekend run hasn't shifted.

If I implied that it was going to shift, then that was not my intent.  For the record, today's P+ originally aired 1/16/79.

Of course, they only started the weekend run of P+ four weeks ago, so it doesn't stand to reason they would shift quite so quickly.  At least the Perry CS weekend run started a long while ago, and other than GSN skipping the Xmas 1978/New Year's 1979 eps they hadn't shifted ahead until today's 7/80 episode.  (Don't ask me about the Eubanks run--I wasn't as much of a fan of that as I was of the Perry version.)

It didn't skip.  The game that started at the beginning of today's show is a continuation of last Sunday's episode.

...Given that we're now suddenly midway through 1980, something I wonder:  Have we been skipped ahead of the game show host tournament, or is it now somewhere just down the road?

That hasn't happened yet.  The host tournament aired in September.

I believe we did just miss the "celebration" for Jim Perry's 3000th show, however (by about two shows).

Today Perry CS went back one year to 7/4/79, with the first G2T2 podium, and champion Patrice Burris, who was later a champion on Rafferty CS in November 1986(champ right after all-time CS winner Brian Hunt retired)

What does it matter what they've skipped?  Today was the last weekend airing of Perry CS... they'll likely go back to the beginning tomorrow when it rejoins the weekday lineup, so it'll be a while before we get to 1979 again.

That's not official.  Every TV listing dot com shows status quo for the schedule tomorrow.

I got a legit reason why I asked: the last time I was actually awake at the god-awful 8am in the morning to see Perry's run of CS, was when Norma actually won the $28K (last time aired first weekend of December)...and I was at college at the time. I always watched Rafferty's version in-between classes during the weekdays anyway...I prefer Perry's run a little more.

Now that the changes will be made (and if I don't have to go to work), I will be alright with that...no matter where they choose to start. (I say 1979 just for the hell of it in any case)

Well I've definitely lost the last microscopic morsel of faith I had in Steve Beverly then...

Yea, he confused the heck out of me, too. I have DVR through Comcast. They don't show the changes going into effect until 7/17. So, once again, nice job, Professor.
