Now, I understand that The Joker's Wild, Combination Lock (working title), and Deal or No Deal are making their way to syndie markets next fall. Most of us also know that some hosts haven't been tapped to host these shows yet. I was wondering if this was in your hands, who should be the hosts of Joker, Lock, and Deal?
I just want to see how far this goes... hopefully, no big deal.
-
Yeah, this thread isn't a trainwreck waiting to happen.
I choose Star Jones, Tony Danza, and George Takei.
-
Just a little heads up: Catch Phrase apparently has a new host and is taping either a pilot or the series soon. I'm trying to find out the details.

I'll try to top that...
Viet Pho, Ken Jennings and John Carpenter

I think I had Viet Pho for lunch today.

I'd like to see Todd Newton try 'Deal Or No Deal'.
-
Matt Scott, Chris Lemon and Mike Klauss.
Either that or irismason42, Adam Kleist and Craig Karlberg.
-
Bill Cullen for TJW (just use the old tapes and put parts of speech on a keyboard to communicate with new contestants.)
Ross King for "Combination Lock." (Working Title). Is he still doing weather in LA?
For DoND, I'd like to see someone from this board get it, either Matt O. or ConnectiMatt.

Hmmm. We may never get past the rules.

Instead of taking the low road and throwing unecessary slams at certain people, I'll just ask why John Ricci can't host his own show.
Why can't John Ricci host his own show? 8)

Thank you for the kind words. NBCs going to go after someone with a little more name recognition than a weatherguy in Connecticut. But that's nice of ya. Which leads me to:

Gordon Peplet for daytime Banker?

I would seriously suggest Bil Dwyer for either Joker or Lock, although he'd prolly be better suited for the latter. Maybe Marc Summers for Joker. Ricci, who could you see hosting Lock, other than Ross King.
I don't know why, but the name Bill Weir keeps crossing my mind as a decent host, maybe not for any of these three projects, but anything in the future. He's one of the anchors on GMA, and from what I've seen, he seems to have a witty personality.
I'd also add Mark L. Walberg to the mix. He's proven himself as a respectable host. He needs one really big hit to establish himself.

Oh, if THAT's not a trainwreck waiting to happen. :)
Irismason42 would confuse everyone with the rules as he/she/it rattled them off so quick no one could comprehend and everyone would be confused.
Kleist would only be good on a bowling show if he brings his buddy.
I could never be on Karlberg's show, because he wouldn't let any Italians on.
;)

I don't think Joker or Combination Lock is a "go" for next season. My take is that they will be piloted for 2007 NATPE and may or may not get picked up.

That'll be decided before NATPE--these days the syndicators and their "station group partners" try to make things a go before the convention, making NATPE simply for signing up the smal-market stations. I would suspect that pilots should be made pretty soon before KW can put the screws on the CBS O&Os and their "Wheel"/"J!"/Oprah stations (or their Dr. Phil/Rachael stations) to sign on the dotted line.

CBS O&Os and their "Wheel"/"J!"/Oprah stations
This struck me as funny, because in Seattle, there is the CBS affiliate (which is not an O&O, it's owned by Cox, but stick with me), then Wheel and J! are on the ABC affiliate, and THEN Oprah is on the NBC.
So, basically, this statement couldn't have applied to Seattle less. :)
/those who know how long KIRO held out before providing Comcast with an HDTV feed might suggest that it's run by Cox, too
-
What Mark might be getting at is that the stations that KW does business with now for WOF/J! and Oprah would be likely candidates for the new shows or they could say, "...well your competitor will take TJW/CL and we'll throw in Oprah unless you take TJW/CL too."
The CBS O&Os might be pressured by KW in the major markets first due to the corporate synergy, then it would trickle down to WOF/J!/Oprah/DrPhil incumbents

Ah, I see. I thought it was a suggestion that more often than not, Wheel/J!/Oprah run on the same station and are CBS O&O's. :) Which may be, but not here. :)

It's my impression that the Wof/j/oprah link is not what it used to be....a lot of syndie shows (most notably oprah and phil) in the past few years started going to the highest bidder once contracts were up....Oprah and Phil have both moved around a lot of big markets in the past few years....we lost Phil once our deal ended with him...and got Joe Brown instead...yikes....
I don't think there are any mkts out there that don't have Wheel and Jep on diff stations...

Assuming there's a typo there, in Minneapolis, the CBS O&O runs "Wheel" at 6:30 but didn't have room for "Jeopardy," (they have both Oprah and Dr. Phil) so the NBC affil has "Jeopardy" at 4:30 following WWTBAM.
Central time zone is different--I think most stations still have local news at 6, then only have one half-hour of prime access left for syndicated stuff before prime time starts at 7.

No typo...I would be really surprised to find more...though you're onto something with the Central time zone thing...when i did weather in Mississippi, the ABC ran Jep at 4:30 and Wheel at 6:30...

..Oprah and Phil have both moved around a lot of big markets in the past few years.
And Sacramento-Stockton is no exception to this. In 2002, KCRA-TV NBC 3 got Oprah Winfrey from KXTV ABC 10 (formerly a CBS station from 1955-95 before going to ABC),and on September 11th , Dr. Phil will move from KCRA to KMAX-TV CW31, because Rachel Ray will go in at 3pm on KCRA. Dr. Phil was originally going to move to CW31's sister station KOVRCBS13, but they chose to do a 4pm newscast which began in July,2006, sending Maury Povich to CW31 at 11am daily.
-
There is a contract clause that Dr. Phil cannot run opposite Oprah, so that limits the programming options somewhat.

Want another one? Try Memphis, Tennessee. J! airs weekdays at 3:30 on the CBS affliliate, WoF airs at 6:30 on the NBC one. But of course, it's Central.

Ouch. I speak real better when i'm on the teevee.

There are 24 stations in the US (all but 3 in the Central time zone) that air Wheel, but not J!. Of the 3 non-Centrals, 2 are Mountain and the third is in Honolulu.
