Title: Prisoner of Trebekistan
Post by: MikeK on September 07, 2006, 06:52:44 PM
Bob Harris' book, Prisoner of Trebekistan, is now in bookstores in hardcover.  Based on just Harris' half-hour reading at Congreff5, this book sounds like an entertaining read.  The people I talked with after the reading had similar thoughts.

Check with your local bookstore to see if they have it.  Two of four Borders within a reasonable drive from home or work didn't have it in stock.  The Barnes and Noble down the street from me had multiple copies sitting smack-dab in the center of the new arrivals table at the store's main entrance.

I've got both Trebekistan and Brainiac (JenKennings' new book) on their way from Amazon, as soon as they deem fit to send them both (Brainiac isn't officially out for another 5 days). It's been too long since I read any good non-fiction.

Lordamighty, the videos on Mr. Harris's site are priceless.  I hope the book's this good.

I hadn't heard of this book until now.

After watching the videos, I'll be at Barnes & Noble on Monday.

I should get it.  If nothing else, it's going to be funny.

Good to see he addendumed his "Some contestants may receive" video.  Man, that's a lot of Bon Ami cleanser.

/Just as funny as the first time

I just finished reading Prisoner and I can't recommend it highly enough.  Admittedly, we're the choir as far as the preaching of this book is concerned, but it's truly a delightful read.  Mr. Harris has clearly won the greatest prize a game can offer: it's not the cars, or the money, or even the Bon-Ami cleanser.  Jeopardy has changed his life for the better, in ways we can all appreciate whether or not we spend any time standing behind a podium.

Read this book.

I just got around to reading this book after finding it at the public library. Fun read. He is an entertaining writer.

Thanks for that, I guess.

You're welcome!

Unless you're being sarcastic, then, "Bazinga!"

A close to seven-and-a-half year bump. Roger, is that a record?

I've never really understood the hate over a long-delayed bump. It's topical; why not keep all of the discussion on a topic in the same thread?

On the same token, why couldn't Alfonzo simply start a new thread instead of plunging into the archives?

Saves time and trouble to do it that way.

I'm genuinely baffled. Time and trouble for who? For Alfonzo?

And anyone else who bumps a seven year old thread when they can simply create a new thread.

Don't fully disagree with you on your original point but why go to the trouble if you don't have to? I mean, if I want to revisit a topic that was last discussed forever and a day ago, I'm going to create a new thread about it.

I just wanted to be sure before I asked: who in the flying fark are you to tell Alfonzo how to spend his time?

So far, you've given absolutely no argument to justify your position aside from "it just bothers me." And you can't even tell us *why*.

I'm not suggesting one way of going about it is better than the other. But you haven't done a thing to convince me it's worse, either, save for a ridiculously feeble attempt that quite honestly isn't so much an iota of your damned business.

I guess "because it's unnecessary" didn't count, then?

It's a public forum. Whatever I post become everybody's business.

Note I also said that I didn't think it was "worse". Just that I didn't agree with the methodology he used to make his point. You're the one with your panties in a bunch here, not me. I'm not trying to tell Alfonzo to do anything according to my whims, I'm just saying that I probably wouldn't have done the same thing if it was me.

It is NOT that big a deal and I SAID it was not that big a deal.

Not when you can't say why, no.

Your previous posts suggest otherwise, but whatever.

As for "panties in a bunch," I invited someone to convince me that Alfonzo did something wrong somehow, seeing as a degree of ire was raised, you responded to that invitation, and you failed. In so doing you came off looking awfully full of yourself,  but your dime. I'll sleep just fine.

Um....okay...so in saying why I somehow didn't say why. Gotcha.

I said that I agreed with you that nothing was overly offensive about it but people can also find it annoying that he didn't just simply start a new thread. Which I did. Because it was unnecessary, I felt.

Okay, friends. My delayed reaction is not worth this sniping. Please stop. Thank you.
