Wow. They REALLY like Doug Davidson over there.
He is better than Dave Price, though, IMHO.
And, how many saw the post title and thought "Yes! John Davidson returns to Game Shows!!!!!"

I thought of it after I posted. Considering all the Davidson talk lately.

Actually, I thought something like "Oh God, not John Davidson!" Can you imagine him hosting TPiR? He'd screw up every third word.
As for O'Hurley and Newton, they might very well work. Hopefully, they'll have Tom Bergeron and Marc Summers audition as well.
-
All fans of The Price Is Right, here is your chance to attend a taping on a Thursday as two non-air shows of Price will be taped on Thursday, January 25 at 12:15pm with John O'Hurley and Todd Newton and at 4:45pm with The Young and the Restless' Doug Davidson.
Do they really need Davidson? They can just pull out the tapes of TPIR '94.
Also, only half an hour each for O'Hurley and Newton?

Who cares about Davidson's hosting ability? That hair would turn me off from watching TPiR again.
If Doug Davidson can learn from his mistakes, he could be a tolerable host, but not as good as either person sharing the stage at 33 with him that day.

This I wonder. Did the suits go to Doug or did Doug go to them?
-
John O'Hurley would be my first choice, but where is it written in stone that there couldn't be multiple hosts for what is a strenuous show? Either a different guy on any given day, or they could have, say, Todd (Doug) doing the pricing games and John (Dave) the one-bids, etc.
-
Yeah, that's what we need. Bob Barker sitting at home in his bathrobe saying "Look, it took THREE MEN to replace me..."
-
Hope he has one of those pipes that blow bubbles, too. That would complete the look. That and a glass of brandy.
The plus for having Doug is that he's had more Price experience and he's a CBS personality. We'll just have to see how this plays out, even though this is merely arranging deck chairs on the Titanic.
I'm started to be reminded of the NFL coaching carousel, but I digress.

Me. I was 'bout ready to Hurl...

Interesting. O'Hurley would probably be my first choice, with Davidson a close second. Please.....ANYONE but Todd Newton!

Say what you want about Doug Davidson, but he'd be much better than Dave Price...Hell, anyone is better than Dave Price!!! Even that Great Guy® Pat O'Brien is better than Dave Price.
I have tried to stomach Dave's weathercasts during The Early Show, and IMHO, he comes across as a smarmy person with a loud grating voice who needs an attitude adjustment.

"What do you mean 'she didn't win'? She was closer. Oh, you have to be closer without going over! Sorry, folks, I'm new to this.
Say, how do you like this great suit from Sears?"

But isn't that like saying that Todd has experience from doing the voiceovers for the DVD game? In the grand scheme of things, it doesn't matter. Hopefully, they'll make a good decision. At least they are trying hosts out.

(Following comment made not being privy to the selection process)
Still, it does make you wonder.... Price has his lips superglued so firmly to Les Moonves' ass..... that one can only deduce that he really sucked ass in his try out.
If he was even 'marginally' good, it would have been his job and that would have been it.

They would be doing themselves a disservice if they didn't try other hosts out.

I'm reminded of the NFL coach hiring procedure by this. You are required to interview at least one minority candidate before you can hire anyone. Hopefully this isn't some sort of act on Moonves' part, just to make it look like he's doing the right thing, but in the end to lead us to the land of Price.
And for all I care, Price can keep his lips superglued to Moonves' ass...

I'm sure Dave Price's initial consideration had more to do with his friendship with Julie Chen and her lips super glued to other parts of Moonves' body.
If you're married to the boss, why not try and help your friends along the way?

While it's nice to have a friend and colleague married to the boss, Julie had nothing to do with this.
Les just reupped Price for the Early Show. No one else on that Early Show team has seen a contract renewal. In fact, the three other then Chenbot are rumoured to be moving off of that show, as it gets ready to relaunch for the 97th time since the Captain graced the airwaves.

I am hoping they tried Dave out first so they could say, "OK, he's out of the way and he bombed, so now let's see some serious contenders".
-
I only wish they would put some of these tryout clips on CBS.com
-
Hellooo...
PLEASE NOTE: All former contestants are eligible to be potential contestants and any contestants chosen on these shows will be eligible to be a contestant on any future broadcast shows.

I'm thinking a lawyer did not go over that bit of text, the strict reading of which would allow any previous contestant a shot at being a contestant on a future episode by becoming a contestant at one of these tryouts. (That's a mouthful.)

This rule also applied for Dave's tryouts last month, so I doubt it's a mistake.
-
Robert meant by taking it literally, it's basically a renewal of eligibility for anybody who's been picked for the show already. The real meaning, of course, is that being a contestant on one of these shows means you aren't ineligible to be on the Real Deal.
