Title: Match Game Ticket Plugs
Post by: cyhh2002 on January 23, 2007, 05:39:34 PM
Can anyone remember about these so-called MG tickets plugs were the producers would superimpose
either the face or mouth of one celebrity or contestant onto the head and shoulders of the other. I know they
did it on every show from the 1979-82 daily syndicated version after the second commercial break. But here are the ones that I remember:
Bart Braverman's face superimposed on Eva Gabor's head
Patty Duke with a mustache
Robert Walden's face superimposed on Elaine Joyce's head (the infamous "Cuckoo, Fran, and Ollie" episode)
Robert Pine's face superimposed on Jamie Lee Curtis' head
A brunette Joyce Bulifant with a mustache
Dick Martin with red lipstick
Anyone else? Thanks!

During the CBS run, the ticket plugs appeared on a weekly basis after the first commercial break. The first two years, the ticket plugs were just ordinary ticket plugs with the ticket information and a background of rotating lights. The funny faces made their debut in September of 1975. The prize plugs were shown after the second commercial break and they were daily. When the show moved to daily syndication in the fall of 1979, the mixed-face ticket plugs were shown after the second commercial break and now appeared on a daily basis while the prize plugs were moved at the end of the show. Gene Rayburn, Brett Somers, and Charles Nelson Reilly rarely did appear in any of the ticket plugs. Instead, the focus was on the four other celebrities and the two contestants. The male celebrity who occupied the #1 chair and the female celebrity
who occupied the #4 chair were featured first since they only appeared maybe twice a year. The male celebrity who occupied the #5 chair and the female celebrity who occupied the #6 chair were next since they were semiregulars. And never has a face been superimposed on a man's head, it was always the women who got the short end of the stick because of the different hairstyles that they wore.

Nope, I'm not. And when they have a headshot of a man (usually a male celebrity) only his mouth is replaced, not the enitre face. It's not as funny as a woman with her face replaced.

No, Boggle just spun the contestant's pictures around in a little cube in the corner during the open. ;)
