Title: Banjo Family Feud theme
Post by: coolwavepic on February 07, 2007, 11:40:48 AM
Hey everyone,

I am looking for the Family Feud face/off theme that (I think) had banjos playing. I think there was a total of 3 face off themes. 1) opening theme 2) harmonica 3) Banjos? If any has these themes in full I would appreciate them!

Thanks
Charles

Ah, the illustrious T.Q. How come all of the files on your site are in a horribly compressed format?

To save space, bandwidth, and have some type of uniform quality for all music cues. Yes, it not CD quality (neither is it stereo), but it's not too crappy either, like my old 30-second samples theme page.

Is there a particular reason all of the music is in .ra format, rather than something like mp3, that can be carried around and uploaded to portable players? (It comes off very much like saying "You can look, but you can't touch?")

And on another point, were you aware that Edgar didn't want the music for Greed to be passed around like that?

I prefered RA format ever since I was introduced to the 80stvthemes.com website. It's what "inspired" me to save the audio files in that format, along with space saving once again. There should be RA to MP3 converters downloadable on the Internet. That way, you can obtain MP3 copies of the music.

Also, no I was not aware that Edgar didn't want the music to be passed around like that, however I'd presume many artist would not enjoy their music being passed around freely like this.

...in horrible quality. Granted, better than nothing, but nothing I would be willing to put on an iPod, either.

It would be feasible to make low-bitrate MP3's just as easily, and would give you one huge advantage: people wouldn't have to install the HORRIBLE RealPlayer software to listen to your stuff. I'm building a Vista box right now, and I'm not gonna install RealPlayer this time, no way, no how. I know ways around it, but other people don't.

That's an interesting comment.

The quality of the music is subjective. To you, it's horrible, fine. To others, it's good enough.

I run the website for the amusement of the Internet game show public. This is the same service provided by Casey Buck, Brian Karimzad, Eric Hjelm, and all the other Yahoo Groups listed in my links section. The only difference is that the material is in RA format and the amount of material is huge.

If I became selective about the theme songs featured on the website, then it will defy my belief in releasing every theme song I have available. I wish to be impartial when documenting these songs.

True. Shame, that.

Um, ok. So why not offer them on a rotating basis in full quality?

Can I skip over the "RA, MP3, all the same thing subjectively" and the "copyright, schmopyright", and get straight to this?

To be fair, some of the themes on my site came from TQ. The difference is that I hosted the original MP3, instead of a RealAudio file.

By the way, for those of you who wondered what happened to The Audio Booth, Comcast messed up my email account when I moved about a month ago, and made my site inactive (although the files were all saved on FTP. for some reason). I tried bitching to Comcast, but they couldn't reactivate it.

When I can afford it, I'll get a real host provider for my site, with LOTS more space. :)

Okay none of the Family Feud cues are the one I am looking for. This face theme was used only in Richard Dawson's era.

Anyone know? Please dont go off topic.

You're new here, so here's some helpful advice: you do not have the right to dictate the direction in which a thread goes, or what others may or may not post in general.  Moreover, when you make a request, you would do well to be far more polite about it.

I've converted a handful of .ra pieces to .mp3 from T.Q.'s site and the quality is very good on them (Bicenteniall Funk, for instance).  Others where the quality wasn't so good I assumed was due to the quality of the original from which the piece came (Press Your Luck themes, MG '73 Bongos, etc.).  If some of them are very good (almost excellent) quality and others poor, I wouldn't attribute it to the conversion process.

You, sir, simply have much lower standards than a lot of us. If they work for you, great, but "very good (almost excellent)" is a VAST VAST overstatement of 32Kbit mono.

This is only directed at Mr. Lemon since he's readily identified himself as a non-trader, but if anybody else feels the way he does, feel free to step forward too: why would one who is just going to listen to the themes need quality only an audiophile would appreciate? Me, I'm just happy to hear stuff like "Pass the Buck" in the clear. The only quality that'd insult me would be akin to 2nd-generation dubs off a Mr. Microphone recording.

Because some of us have standards. You like listening to flat, fuzzy, overcompressed trash? Great. Knock yerself out.

But I happen to think there's another reason why the stuff is posted in really low quality, and I can understand why he wouldn't want to bring attention to it.

Let me do some clarification.  For themes I've never heard before or gameshows I've hardly ever seen, If there's a hair more music that hiss and pops, it's good enough.  If it's something like pop music or a Boston Pops score, I don't settle for anything but master quality.  The "very good (almost excellent)" could have been clarified also.  I meant relative to some of the other themes/cues floating around the Internet, including at T.Q.'s site.  Game show aficionados like yourself would appreciate a "straight from the master tape" conversion, but for guys like me 32Kbit mono is good enough.  (Besides, Casey lent us all the good Feud stuff, and I couldn't care less about the rest.)
