I liked the first day of the Al Roker version of Millionaire but his enthusiasm may be perceived by some as a little too. Thoughts?
-
I think he's good with ad-libbing, but not so good with the "scripted" parts. If the latter can be fixed, we may have a new host in Roker.

I was one of the few who probably actually somewhat enjoyed his early MSNBC quiz, "Remember This?" But I'm a fan of most things quiz bowl, so take that as you will. He was definitely far more hyper on Millionaire than the other show, though.

That's funny--I haven't seen Roker, but the same thing could be said of Regis. He was no Trebek with the questions and was always stilted between players, but great, of course, kibbutzing with the person in the hot seat.

Kibitzing. Our Jewish friends know that "kibbutzing" is something completely different.

That's the problem when the Lutherans start trying to spout Yiddish. A kibbutz is the communal living arrangement, correct?

I worked with Roker at WKYC in Cleveland. He impressed me as someone who would be a good host because he has a rapport with people. On WWTBAM he came armed with jokes and chatted with ease to the players. What more could one want?

(Those who used to watch Channel 3 News during the Roker era in Cleveland should remember FRED, but hell if I remember what FRED stood for).

Forecast Radar and Electronic Display. Roker came up with the name and draw the graphics.
