Saw this AP Today in History entry for March 11 on Yahoo!:
In 1957, Charles Van Doren's 14-week run on the rigged NBC game show "Twenty-One" ended as he was "defeated" by attorney Vivienne Nearing; Van Doren's take was $129,000.
I especially like the quote marks around "defeated."

Anyone interested in the quiz scandal should watch Al Freedman's interview:

Freedman became producer of Twenty One during Herb Stempel's run.
Sadly, the nitwit who interviews Freedman has a bad habit of interrupting him in mid-thought, and never draws out Freedman on his opinion of Herbert Stempel.
