I've seen Gene used the gold handled one a scattered time during MG74. Just thought it was the black coming off the handle, but looks like there was infact a gold handled model
Cheers

I see more than one person is hoping to get a Rayburn-length mic out of this, based on the questions that have been asked.
-
Darn. I'd bid on that if it wasn't already up to $172.50.
-
I thought Gene's mic was a custom made job...at least the telescoping feature.
-
I can remember, back in 81 or 82, another mic producer had a knockoff of the Sony/Rayburn microphone.
Does anyone else remember this mic? I can't remember the manufacturer. It took a large hearing aid battery versus the AA battery normally needed for the ECMs.

Well, yes and no. Garden-variety ECM-51s telescoped, and that's what Gene was issued for several years. However, according to some long-ago posts (http://\"http://groups.google.com/groups?as_q=rayburn&num=100&scoring=d&hl=en&as_epq=fencing&as_oq=&as_eq=&as_ugroup=alt.tv.game-shows&as_usubject=&as_uauthors=&lr=&as_drrb=q&as_qdr=&as_mind=1&as_minm=1&as_miny=1981&as_maxd=31&as_maxm=5&as_maxy=2007&safe=off\") in ATGS, he was notorious for "fencing demonstrations" and other rough handling that often led to broken contacts inside the neck. (I recall a clip from that 1996-or-7 VH1 special in which Gene's '51 was visibly crooked.) The custom-built mic with the one-piece neck came along later--say, by the Star Wheel days.

Aw, dammit, I just shelled out more than 600 smackers for a new mic and accessories. I want a 51!
