Title: Today's "Sally Forth" Comic-GSN mention
Post by: Tim L on June 29, 2007, 12:47:03 PM
I saw this today in the Cleveland Plain Dealer-Sally Forth's Comic Strip

(Link to the Minneapolis Star-Tribune)

Edit:The original link is outdated which I figured might happen sooner or later..Thanks to Dr. Bear and Trainman for catching the strip writer's blog, which has the strip in question..

Proof that (most) everyone still thinks GSN is still Game Show Network...the whole 100K or so people that watch. :)

(translation: Current GSN isn't working).

And hasn't been, but it's obvious they don't know what to do.  I bet there are some pressuring for all-call-in-and-lose (and I know the systems would love the revenue-sharing from that), but I don't think viewers would.  I personally can't come up with a solution, outside of "go back to all-traditional game shows," which would be their death demographically.

Are "no viewers" really worse than "demographically undesirable viewers"?

GSN could change to "Gaming Show Network."  Traditional game shows in the daytime then casino shows from 7pm to 6am.  Maybe show closed circuit feeds from various casinos all night, etc.

I'm surprised they haven't tried to capitalize on the link between Deal or No Deal and the "original," Treasure Hunt.

An update: Ces Marciuliano reports in his new blog that  GSN loved the bit and sent him one of their buzzers.
Because of this, I would liketo say that I think GSN is a fine network and should be viewed by every man, woman and child on the planet.

I'd also like to say to GSN that if you're out of buzzers, a lifesize Shandi would be acceptable.

EDIT: I have no idea why the link isn't working. It shows up OK on the preview but the actual post doesn't show it. Ah well, you kids are smart enough to cut and paste...aren't you?

Perhaps -and maybe I'm just crazy, or naive, or on pain medication - GSN is starting to "get" that to pretty much everyone, they're still "Game Show Network", and who knows - maybe they'll actually embrace it for once instead of trying to convince people the network is something it isn't.

They were never a top 10 cable network running the old stuff, but they weren't with the casino or reality experiments either. In pretty much every programming format they've ever had, they've hovered in the lower third of the Top 50 cable networks, or just outside the T50.  And they probably never WILL be a top 10 or probably even top 25 network, no matter how many 2nd tier poker shows or failed 2000 game shows they acquire.  In a 5 billion channel universe, perpetual rankings in the 40s aren't that bad.

I think the problem may be the quotation marks (http://\"http://francescoexplainsitall.blogspot.com/2007/07/no-whammy.html\") -- the weirdo Invision Power Board/vBulletin/phpBB code doesn't use quotation marks around URLs the way HTML does.

You wouldn't happen to be using Linkification (http://\"http://yellow5.us/firefox/linkification\") on Firefox, would you? I do, and it does that to me when I use the preview function. (When a page is displayed with my post on it, it turns the URL inside the tag to a link, which the Invision software changes into another url tag.)  The way around it is to use "Quick Edit" on your post, and remove the double tag.

No Linkification (sounds like bannination?) and tried removing the quotes. But I am using Firefox, if only because IE on my puter is slower than molasses in March (and that's slower than in January). Slower'n the fat girl chasing the chihuahua up the staircase. I'm 50 and I don't have that much time.

Sorry bout the threadjacking...

They're all out of those.  I just received mine the other day.
