Title: Wheel of Fortune puzzle board pictures
Post by: barker5000 on December 07, 2007, 07:12:47 PM
Is there a way I can find pictures ( or just 1 picture ) of the 1981 - 1997 " Wheel of Fortune " puzzle board that says WHEEL OF FORTUNE, just like in the cover boxes of the board game versions and video game versions of the show? If so, how?

Thanks,
barker5000

Find...a copy of the game?

Or you could just do an image search on Google.

I think he wants an actual photo or screenshot of the real board showing "WHEEL OF FORTUNE" as a puzzle, rather than the drawing found on the home game boxes.

When I first saw the post I doubted that such a picture existed, but I don't claim to know about every existing promotional photo so I let it through.

Yes, I'm looking for an actual photo / screenshot of the real board showing "WHEEL OF FORTUNE" as a puzzle, not the drawing found on the home game boxes.

Thanks,

It was either that or this (http://\"http://www.electronicchicken.com/wp-content/uploads/2007/09/wheel1.jpg\")...

OP,

Get a copy of Vanna Speaks. There's a photo of the board there. It's on you to find a copy.

Because I'm a nice guy, here's a list of eBay auctions. (http://\"http://search.ebay.com/search/search.dll?from=R40&_trksid=m37&satitle=Vanna+Speaks&category0=\")

I've always wanted to know those why those left most 2 trilons were almost always turned towards a different direction rather than having the green glittered side facing straight toward us?

The trilon in each corner was never used, and (my guess) probably fixed in place to prevent use.  Those corner trilons would be partially obscured by the board's border in any camera shot, and as such couldn't realistically be used for a puzzle.  By fixing them in place or otherwise disabling their use, you prevent any problems.

As for why those corner trilons would even be there in the first place?  It probably just looked better from a design perspective.  All of the puzzleboards/borders used from the debut of the 4 line board in '81 to the digital board debut in '97 featured those corner trilons - except for the one used on road trips [Pic] (http://\"http://gscentral.net/wof/1stsony2.jpg\").   Said boards all had smooth interior edges.  The one that didn't use them - the board shown earlier - used a jagged inner edge which jutted into the spaces normally occupied by those trilons somewhat noticeably.  One could therefore go with the assumption that they simply didn't want the empty space.

I think he's talking about the two left center trilons, not the corner ones. Although why one would wonder about that, I can't fathom--someone probably didn't turn them the right way when they took the picture.

However, I also remember episodes in which those particular trilons were turned the same way, but I can't pin down particular episodes.

Actually, I've wondered about those myself as well. Those trilons weren't facing that way in just that picture. See here (http://\"http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RBDdORT0OCQ\"), here (http://\"http://gscentral.net/wof/pat825.jpg\"), and here (http://\"http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OkIqXTL2mFw\") (remember when there were still 1-word puzzles in the main game and the giant bow on the board at Christmas?).

Oh. In THAT case: I wonder if it could be related to the way the camera was positioned.  If you notice, the camera appears to be placed a bit left-of-center, so when pointed straight ahead would actually be aimed slightly right of center.  As such, you'd need to tilt those 2 middle trilons on the far left edge - in order to make sure they display properly.

Those trilons were probably tilted towards the contestants to make any letters on them easier to read on stage.

/But that's just my opinion.

And I apologize to rebelwrest for not realizing that they had the board like that on actual episodes.
