Always fun to listen. Even more fun to call in and talk to guys you've admired for years.

Thanks Stu, and thanks Geoff!

Due to work commitments, I haven't had the chance to listen to the show yet.
I should be able to catch it tonight and am very much looking forward to it.
How many of you on this here board can I expect to hear as callers?

Delicately, he responded....

It sounded like , most were the usual mix of 'scary' sounding fanbo1s who call every week. One or two exceptions.

And Steve Beverly.

There were, some really good stories from Geoff. Some really matter-of-fact recounts of some producers he worked with. Good Stuff.

I know. Sometimes I get a bigger laugh simply by serving up the softballs. Thank you for taking a swing!

You smoothie, you were one of those exceptions.
And I agree with Stu. Your voice is fantastic.
Good advice for you from Geoff, too. Keep the weather gig. Never leave your base.
That two hours did zoom by.

That's nice of you. Thanks for the kind words.

You don't have a game show for me to host, do you?

Shouldn't you be asking your General Manager that question?  :-)

Seriously, if you come up with a good concept and sell it as a way to satisfy part of the FCC E/I required programming who knows?  Do they have a high school quiz bowl in your market?

I get that question a lot. The answer is : Yes, I've asked. Yes, I've been declined.

Kids, this is a different world now for local TV. If it's not done on the cheap, it's just not done like it used to.

Yes, this would satisfy E/I requirements. It would also require a staff, a production, and multiple salaries. And that's something they don't have to factor in when they buy "Jack Hanna's Animal Adventures".

Have you seen the Cincinnati newscasts lately?  Any of them?  Pretty dang cheap to me.

3 of the 4 stations where I live (Washington, DC, a top 10 market), still do their news in SD.

Same here, although 'VEC is available in widescreen. HD conversions aren't cheap.

Heh, I wasn't even referring to HD vs. SD, although one station has to trumpet HD in its' news intro twice (the second is reminiscent of "That's The Question"s first season).  Nah, I mean the product quality is cheap.  My favorite stupid banner of last week was a tour of the new IKEA store, but was trumpeted as a "Developing Story Alert".  That, and those "Breaking News Alerts" that are about three hours old.  I've also never seen so much coverage of a three alarm fire in my life.  Six, yes - but three?  Give me a break.
